Gun Control: Does Owning Guns make some people feel Special?

Kilgore Trout

Why is it that if you ask a person in another country if they think guns make a person safer, they say no? Americans have been conditioned to think guns make a person safer, because Americans have always had the right to own a gun, and they will do anything to hold on to that right, even if it's not condusive.

So people in other countries are conditioned to think guns don't make them safer, while Americans are conditioned to think guns do make them safer. Maybe people should spend less time generalizing the behavior of others, and more time doing what's right for them. I'm glad I live in a place where I have the freedom to decide for myself.

OH,YEAH, that's what I want to do - insert something inside me that expands into a pouch with barbed tips. I will feel ever so much safer with the rapist, not only on top of me, but with him actually IN THE ACT OF RAPE.
I thought it was interesting. Agonizing pain and an embarrassing and incriminating trip to the ER. Of course it's not full proof, but neither is a gun.

How does the citizen having the right to own a gun actually serve a purpose?

How does the citizen wallowing in willful ignorance serve a purpose? You've already rejected any and all explanations before they were even given to you. You refuse to understand and be informed. Your emotions are preventing you from being rational. Here's a better question for you: "How does the citizen having any rights or liberty serve a purpose?" Once you can answer that, you'll have your own answer.

I think this has been explained quite well. First, they provide protection. Even if we ignore this, then they help keep animal population down which in turn allows these populations to actually survive.

I think most women would rather put a bullet in a rapist's skull rather than reply on some crude device that has to be lodged in their vagina all day, ever day as they wait for their attacker to attempt to penetrate them. Seriously now, think about it.

What does owning a gun have to do with basic rights and liberties?

Rick, you don't understand what went on in New Orleans, so don't pretend you do. I was here. If it wasn't for the cops and the millitary, this would have turned into it's own city-state because of rebel rousers who own guns. That's how people around here behave with guns, showing me there isn't enough gun control.

Was not enough gun control? Your state got into trouble for taking people's guns.

They needed to take the guns to get the city back under control. That's my point. That's how many people behave with guns.

for a small price* you too can have a false sense of security!

*price includes accidental child deaths, accidental adult deaths, murderous rampages, far-right militia terrorist groups, higher murder rate, easy access for gangs & criminals, gun running to mexican drug cartels, ect.

for a small price* you too can make meaningless bumper-sticker arguments instead of coming up with a real reason why a basic human right should be abolished!

*price includes looking like a tool, ignoring firearm statistics that don't agree with you, and taking their findings out of context to make weapons look more dangerous than they are, etc.

I hate doing that, by the way, because people always take it so personally. It's because on the internet there are no non-verbals to indicate that while the words are harsh the intent is still jovial. Sometimes i hate the internet. :(

The government can protect your rights, that's what cops are for
So you are basing your opinions from one very small part of the country? Cops can not protect everyone's rights. It is an impossibility. This has been explained over and over again. Do you even read what is being said in this thread? It certainly doesn't seem that way.

There are not enough cops to protect everyone all of the time. The police force doesn't even pretend that is an option. So no, cops can not protect your rights. If someone pulls a knife on me, the cops can't do a single thing, because unless the criminal was a complete idiot, there will not be any cops around. And by the time that the criminal is done doing whatever to me, and the cops arrive, the criminal will be long gone.
