Much of the country was settled by people fleeing that 'tolerance for other religions' to be free to practice their faith
That happened hundreds of years ago (it's pointless to assume the conditions then still exist today). And even still, those Puritans who came over here/were shipped over here were very intolerant themselves, not only England where their crimes include burning the Globe Theater on "moral" grounds, but also severe intolerance and brutality towards the natives here.

You're bedbug crazy if you think that there is honest analogy between Lemaitre and this laundry list of crazies and frauds. But if that is a list of people what you think you can respect, then you should add yourself to the signing, I'm sure that CMI can invent an appropriate sounding academic title and affiliation that will take me about a minute on google to expose.

I ask because I have found ten that have the exact same list in the exact same order.

the list of people who are skeptical of ghosts, but also championed among paranormal investigators, is 0

The fact that Lemaitre was on ordained priest who got his doctorate at a catholic university was held against him also, his first writings on the primeval atom were ignored for not being in what was considered a weighty journal..

Had he gone to an atheist institution, he might have been accepted more quickly a scientist and had a far more academically accomplished career, and maybe even been awarded a nobel prize -, for agreeing the universe is static!

There were secular and religious institutions in a free society. Nice try at a strawman

AIG aka Answer in Genesis. The list is old and a mockery of critical thinking. They started the list and other sites just copied it for those that rely on apologetics for their arguments

Actually much of the country was founded by people fleeing the wrath of others who could not stomach their (those who were forced to flee's) intolerance any further and threw them out (read a history of the Pilgrims, I know, one of my ancestors came over on the Fortune). These folks confused freedom to practice their religion with freedom to mistreat anyone who believed differently than they did.

This rather odd list is quite dated. If you're going to cite evidence I suggest you get your facts together. The following have all been dropped from your list.

And including statisticians, mathematicians, M.D.s, linguists, dentists, philosophers, doctors of veterinary medicine, and plastic surgeons as "accomplished scientists" is simply asinine, Kind of speaks to the veracity of the creationist movement. On the other hand there's the delightful Project Steve:

"Project Steve is a tongue-in-cheek parody created by the National Center for Science Education, intended to place the "scientific debate" over evolution into proportion. It is in response to various lists, put out by the likes of the Discovery Institute, of scientists who supposedly reject evolution
Stephen was chosen in honour of Stephen Jay Gould, who died about a year before the list began. Some slight variations of that name are also included, such as Steven, Steve, Stefan, or Stephanie, or the same name in languages other than English, including three Etiennes, three Estebans, one Istvan, and one Tapani, which is the Finnish equivalent.

The list was invented entirely for the lulz and was not intended to be an argumentum ad populum, or any other argumentum. As of March 31, 2014, The Steve-o-meter numbers 1330 scientists on its list. It has been noted that the Steve list has proportionately more biologists (about two thirds are qualified biologists) than the creationists' list. So there.

The Discovery Institute's A Scientific Dissent from Darwinism had, by comparison, 12 signatories whose names would have qualified them for the Steve list per 2012. The twelve constitute a motley crew that contains at least some non-scientists (Meyer, Cheesman), certified crackpots (Gift), and one single biologist, C. Steven Murphree, who has — to really add insult to injury —
later repudiated his involvement with the creationist movement and signed Project Steve instead.

Actually there are a few. Me being one.

But the point is not that it was a religious institution (as there are no atheist institutions that I am aware of) but the fact it is UNACCREDITED. Which means either 1) they didn't apply for accreditation or 2) they didn't get it. Which basically means they could teach whatever they wanted as fact in that institution without anyone calling them on it.

I could, for example, create an institution if I had plenty of money to do so and train people all the way to the PhD level in fantasy biology. I could teach them the anatomy of Unicorns and the rate of fairy dust that is required per ounce of weight to propel faeries or humans in that matter. And it would still be an institution. I could teach a history class based off of the Inglorious ******** movie.

But if you have an accredited institution that means that people agree you are not full of crap and that what you teach is of viable substance. It has nothing to do with the religious nature of the institution as we have plenty of accredited religious Universities.

At another religious website that I cannot mention, one of the posters noticed the name of one of the scientists on a list similar to the above, and he knew something was wrong because the scientist was not anti-evolution but merely questioned one particular hypothesis (I don't recall which). So he checked several of the other names on the list and found much the same.

Therefore, be wary of lists like this because the scientists named may not be anti-evolution but merely questioning an aspect or two.

American's pesky habit of free individual thought, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, has served it quite well, compared with those who accepted institutionalized, intellectual, academic science as gospel that must be forced on the people. With these values it lead the world producing most of the technology that makes modern life possible, including what you're doing right now

There is freedom of religion and expression, and then there is the decision of abusing religion in order to express degenerate ideas that pander to obscurantism and superstition.

The former may be used to open the way to the later, and we should always be on the guard in order to defend ourselves from that sad possibility.

There was a time in the UK. Where only Anglicans Jews and later Quakrers could hold their own religious services. Since then just abou any belief can claim to be a religion.
Many of those early setlers to the Americas formed individual colonies, where other religions than their own, were suppressed.
it seems some of the more primative ones succeeded beyond their wildest dreams, and have become father to all this antievolution nonsense
