Coulter's Religious views

So there has been a lot of talk of Dawkins as of recent. (I still have that badger, badger song stuck in my head to the toon of dawkins, dawkins, dawkins... so yeah thanks to who ever suggested that... :sarcastic ) Anyways Ann's got a new book out and is always an interesting person when it comes to religion. Anyone have any thoughts on Ann?

Heres a quote from wikipedia:

Ann from Wiki said:
Coulter says that she holds Christian beliefs, but has not declared her membership in any particular denomination; she has mentioned that her father was Catholic while her mother was not.[4] At one public lecture she said: "I don't care about anything else: Christ died for my sins and nothing else matters."[53] In a 2004 column,[54] she summarized her view of Christianity: "Jesus' distinctive message was: People are sinful and need to be redeemed, and this is your lucky day because I'm here to redeem you even though you don't deserve it, and I have to get the crap kicked out of me to do it." She then mocked "the message of Jesus ... according to liberals," summarising it as "...something along the lines of 'be nice to people'," which, in turn, she said "is, in fact, one of the incidental tenets of Christianity".

I'm not religious but Ann's comment is interesting... how much does a person's political views affect their religious views?

.. how much does a person's political views affect their religious views?

My politics informs my religious views. For example I reject violence, this informs my religious views. I don't think I'm alone in that.
I met a minister once who had previously been a trade union official. He remained a committed socialist and saw his ministry as an extension of the socialism and egalitarianism he had pursued as an activist. I thought he was great :D.

I don't know much about Ann Coulter or Dawkins. My religious views affect everything I do, including my political views. Stricly in that order. My religion is my rock. It keeps everything else in place.

Heh. See we agree on some things.
Of course we do. We also agree on separation of church and state. :)

So do political views influence the religious tendency toward particular faiths? Or particular faiths inspire specific politcal beliefs?
Both? I think it depends on the individual person and his or her circumstances, but I think the two reinforce each other. Those Christians with liberal socio-political views tend to interpret the bible in a more liberal way, and those with conservative socio-political views tend to interpret the bible in a more conservative way. But it would be folly to deny that certain religious views on things like homosexuality, abortion, war, capital punishment, etc influence people's political views. It has an effect when your preacher gets up there every Sunday claiming that such and such is a sin. It also has an effect when every week he or she reminds you of your duty towards your fellow humans.

My family is my rock and I would do anything for them. From there the rest of my life has grown and continues to.
