Common Sense (or lack thereof)

Hi,

Does it seem apparent to anyone else here that lately there has been a real lack of common sense going around. I've spent 2 days arguing whether or not human are made out of clay and its driving me up the wall to see such a lack of common sense.

I know i'd never win the tolerance award here but enough's enough. Is anyone else getting frustrated about some of the discussions which seem to be going around in circles these days?

Like you wouldn't believe.

But guess what! There's also been an increase in rage at people's lack of sense. If anything, it means we are moving towards a time when knowledge will be a great value and when all people will seek it diligently.

Now if we could all learn to just be humble...

Arguing with someone who truly believes or doesn't believe something is pointless. Debating so you can learn is the way to go. It causes less frustration.
To coin an old, dried out phrase- live and let live.

I do not condone stupidity to respect someones religious beliefs. If people are wrong they need to be told. When they defy 4 or 5 people saying the same thing independently but maintian they're right, everyone else is wrong, they deserve a serve for a) the ignorance and b) their arrogance :)

The most frustrating thing lately, is an apparent drastic decrease in peoples' ability to read for comprehension, along with an increase in their getting their panties in a wad over the certitude that they are right, and you are wrong, regarding whatever it is that you wrote that they can't, or didn't bother to, understand.

Common sense is misnamed. At least anytime during the latter half of the 20th century and so far in the 21st, it's rightful name is UNcommon sense.

I dunno. I don't believe that God formed man, whole and complete, out of clay. But is it a lack of common sense that causes people to believe that? I'm not sure if it is exactly common sense that is missing, since afterall, if you believe God is omnipotent, there is no reason why he couldn't create people out of mud.

More or less i guess im frustrated at how apparent it is that people are programmed. I can respect a person a lot more for their own opinion no matter how much i disagree more than a programmed person who's reproducing whatever they believe without question.

I'm sick to death of having to make the accertion that i might be wrong so that a bunch of superstitous beliefs can have some credibility. As in, "i believe in Noah's Flood, so i'm right, and you're wrong." Its not about who's right, its about who's making sense. Its about interpreting demonstratable facts. Some people lately have not been able to demonstrate either.

I don't "believe" in anything.

I can say though, for sure, that man wasn't made out clay. The evidence supporting this is astronomical. Yet some people seem to think a bible holds more weight than chemical analysis.

Maybe man wasn't made out of clay, but the creation story is probably symbolic- meaning that humans are made out of the same elements and compounds as everything else. ;)
But I still think if people want to be ignorant, they are not going to change because someone tells them they are wrong.

'sides everyone knows that man and woman were originally made from Ash and Elm trees growing on the shore. Personally I feel more kinship for the palm tree in my yard than the dirt it is planted in... just sayin'

The argument that has me at wit's end is "Obama = Socialist = Communist = Evil Dicatorship." I've lost track of how many times I've told people that Obama is NOT a socialist, and the Socialism is NOT communism, and that Communism is NOT a form of dictatorship. Goes along with the whole tax thing. I'm not rich, my taxes have been cut, thus no, I am not going to go against my own self interest to pressure government into lowering taxes for some groups to only have mine raised again, all because some people, who make more money in a week than I make in a month, can't afford thier own taxes.

Haha time for them to sell their Mercedes and buy American again right

People are naturally resistant to change, so they make up excuses as to why change is bad, no matter how pathetic they sound in doing so lol.

Did you learn anything in your two days of arguing whether humans are made of clay, other than patience?

Common sense is mis-named. Sense does not appear to be particularly common.

Patience is not one of my strengths. I learn't nothing, but neither did he. Sad really, i wasted about 2 hours compiling evidence for his and he ignored it. Pretty rude if you ask me.
