Oh.... you must have added this later......
Not one above the others, eh? Scripture seems contrary to your opinion:
Matt. to Rev. - Peter is mentioned 155 times and the rest of apostles combined are only mentioned 130 times. Peter is also always listed first except in 1 Cor. 3:22 and Gal. 2:9 (which are obvious exceptions to the rule).
Dont get me wrong, Im not saying Peter wasnt Special, he was a chosen vessel of the Lord, but he wasnt the only vessel of the Lord. Nor was he the chief sheperd.Did Peter alone build the Church?
John 21:21 Peter seeing him said to Jesus: But Lord what about this man? Jesus said to him: If I will that he remain until I come,
what is that to you?
This does not sound like something you would say to someone that you were going to appoint as the chief sheperd. Peter was set apart as a minister of christ.
Peter was an Apostle, just as many others. His ministry was the spreading of the gospel.
Just as many others. He did not remain in only one city as the office of Pope.
No where in scripture is the church instructed to do this.
And if this were to be done ,there should be twelve Popes not one and the preffered city would be Jerusalem not Rome.
Yes, Peter was given power and authority, so was Paul and the other apostles.
One of the first councils after the church began ,Said nothing of Peter.
Acts 6:2 Then the
Twelve Summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God And serve tables.
If he alone had authority over the church then why would anyone ( including Paul) question his actions?
The need for bishops ( more than one) was appointed by christ through the apostles to oversee the church for there growth, not as them having the last say in the matter, for even they themselves were sucseptible to error.
Who is Peter or who is Paul, it is Christ who died and Rose again. Are we baptised in the name of Peter or the name of Paul?
The church as the body of christ is responsible for one another and subjective to the head who alone is Christ, the only chief Sheperd.
Gal.1:18 - Paul spends fifteen days with Peter privately before beginning his ministry, even after Christ's Revelation to Paul.
Is this So?
Acts 9:11-22 Paul Immediately preached the Gospel
Gal 1:16-17 to reveal his son in me, That I might Preach him among the gentiles, I did not immediatrly
confer with flesh and blood. 17 Nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles
before me.
18
Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter.
