Are some more protective of their concept of Hell than Heaven?

The maximum duration is one year. Then everyone goes on to Heaven.

In Baha'i we don't even hold the traditional view of heaven or hell. The afterlife is like a new journey that everyone goes on and, like in this life, some people are closer to God than others. "Hell" and "heaven" are seen as the distance from God both in this world and the next.

That sounds good, too.

Hell isn't supposed to be a positive thing. In Biblical reference, there are at least a couple different types of 'Hell', that all get translated using the word 'hell'. The context tells the reader, generally, which ''hell'', is being referred to.

In Judaism, Gehinnom is a place of atoning and learning. G-d places all our sins in front of us, our souls are laid bare. We must confront all our bad choices (which could be painful and terrifying for us), atone for them, and get our souls cleansed. It takes up to one year to do this. Afterwards, everyone goes on to Heaven. So hell could be viewed as a positive thing since it gets our souls ready to enter Heaven.

Fair enough.
