“Jesus was liberal” is whataboutism

Jesus may have been a liberal back then, but that has no bearing now. Think about it

“Jesus was a liberal back then, so he’d be cool with abortion now”

“Jesus was a liberal back then, so he’d be okay with all sin now”

“Jesus was a liberal back then, so he’d let you get into heaven without affirming now”

It sounds like liberals don’t have a good argument and instead try to deflect the argument.

Just like Trump supporters and whataboutism

Maybe jesus was simple and he was none of the above.

Jesus was a conservative back then, so he'd be OK with robbing the poor to give to the rich.

Jesus was a conservative back then, so he'd be OK with ramming his beliefs down the throats of others through political lobbying.

Jesus was a conservative back then, so he'd be OK with judging and condemning everyone to hell for not believing like him.

Jesus was a conservative back then, so he'd be OK with denying science.

And so forth...

You have a strange idea of what liberalism is.
Jesus was a peace-and-love hippie; compassionate, non-violent, socialist, and hostile to accumulating wealth.

I think the whole "Jesus was [...]" thing is largely a red herring. Regardless of what Jesus was, I don't think he should have anything to do with dictating politics or modern-day state laws. Simple as that. It's not like that would change based on whether he was an all-merciful philanthropist or a rabid misanthrope.

I am not at all sure about the non-violent part.

Had Jesus been engaged in or supportive of the many violent anti-Roman groups of His day, His Apostles and disciples wouldn't have ever written it down or told someone like Saul of Tarsus about it. And we know absolutely nothing about Jesus that wasn't filtered by those people. The attack on the Temple may have been the tip of the iceberg. The Romans didn't crucify people for heresy, but they certainly did for freedom fighting/terrorism.

What I normally hear argued for morality from just about anyone is not allowing people to do harm to themselves and others. Liberalism doesn't equate to any sort of anarchy.

This from wiki.
Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.[1][2][3] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas and programmes such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free markets, civil rights, democratic societies, secular governments, gender equalityand international cooperation.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
