I expect a President Biden to do pretty much nothing but keep the seat warm for the next few years until we're stupid enough to elect another republican president, who will then finish the job of destroying democracy and the middle class once and for all. Because that's what the oligarchs that control both parties want, and it's what they will get because we're just too stupid and selfish to band together and fight them.

But I suppose we can thank Joe and Kamala for the temporary stay of execution.

That's why I'm thinking of joining the SAM party next year. It was on the ballot in NY.

It's the primaries that really matter. We have to send EVERY INCUMBENT packing, EVERY TIME, regardless of party, until we get people in there who will ACT and not just talk about ending the horrific corruption of legalized bribery.

Every incumbent out, every time. When they finally realize they don't get to keep their crown unless they clean up their act, they will finally clean up their act. Because NOTHING means more to them than keeping their positions of power. It's their fascination with power that's drives people to go into politics (and why they are almost always the WRONG people for the job).

Yup. Replacing Trump with Biden...

...the rich will continue to get richer. The poor will continue to get poorer. All the wars will continue. People will still be medically uninsured or underinsured. People will still be drowning in medical debt. Higher education will still be reserved for the rich while others continue to drown in student loan debt. We still won't get a living wage. People will continue to have to work multiple full time jobs just to keep a roof over their head. Homelessness will not be addressed. The prison population will continue to increase. Police will continue to kill and brutalize innocent people with no accountability. The climate crisis will be met with incrementalism. With a victory, the Democrats will claim they don't need progressive policies to win then proceed to shift even further Right.

Then the next Republican that will be poised to win the White House will be even worse than Trump. This Republican will be even further Right than Trump, except this time smart, articulate, and very popular. Then that too will be dubbed the "most important election in history". And by then Democrats will be saying "Now is not the time to vote third party! We must come together and vote for Donald Trump Jr. in order to keep Tucker Carlson from winning!"

How do we fix it? Trump is like a toxic toadstool that grew from a putrid pile of ****. We've disposed of the toadstool, yet the pile remains, so how do we address it?
The ever present demand to “take money out of politics” seems more and more to be impossible. The only thing that I have seen this election (other than the ouster of the worthless ****head con-man Chump) is the rapid acceptance of the “Electoral College Resolution” work-around. Genius. :)

Trying to ask the corrupt politicians to change their ways is not going to work. But perhaps citizen initiated ballots stand a chance of changing the government around (and in spite of) the politicians.
Currently 26 states allow them, but if enough of them demanded a federal regulation allowing citizen initiated ballot measures (perhaps requiring X number of signatures from each of the 50 states), then maybe we can change how the federal gov’t works, in spite of the politicians’ desires.

 Just sayin’.

Yep. Its amazing on how all these people, once having a taste of, wealth, political and legal power, will claw and sink their teeth into it at all costs to keep it no matter what not caring one iota who they need to step on for retaining that power. Its why I'm in favor of strict term limits. No more indefinite running and lifetime appointments.

We have to face the real problem of our own greed and selfishness causing us to vote for known liars, cheats, and criminals just to get what we want. Or, we don't vote at all because we're doing OK and we just don't give a crap about anyone else. Our politicians are corrupt because we're corrupt. We put them there, and we keep them there.

Nearly everyone that voted for Trump did so based on their own paychecks. Or on their own stock portfolios. Or on some single ideological issue like abortion, or racism, or sexism, or personal freedom; that's important to them. All those votes based on "me". Not based on what's good for the whole country, or on helping all of us achieve a better life. Trump is the mascot for greed, and ignorance, and selfishness, and we have become a very greedy, ignorant, selfish culture. It's that simple. And unless and until we're willing to face up to this, we're going to continue to destroy each other and ourselves trying to get everything our own way at everyone else's expense.

And it's not just us, it's happening in nations all across the world.

This is the main reason I'm an E. Warren fan. She gets the closest to actually naming the oligarchs. The oligarchs who are indeed poisoning everything.

(i like the "toss all incumbents" idea as well :) )

Of course not. But there is something thay want even more than the bribe money, and that is to stay in power. If we were to band together and make it known to them that we will not re-elect anyone that does not ACT to stop the legalized bribery, they will finally act. But we have to do it united in message and action, ourselves. And so far all we seem to want to do is blame each other, which is exactly what they want us to do, and to keep doing, indefinitely.

We can do a lot of things, but we have to do them TOGETHER. We have to stop blaming each other, and voting against each other, and start uniting against a common and VERY SERIOUS threat to all of us.

I agree. I never trusted politicians, and believe that the "oligarchs" "control both parties" as well.

The problem with term limits is that if we get someone good, they're going to need time and our ongoing support to make any real and positive changes. Also, if we get someone bad, they're going to do as much damage as they can get away with because they know they're not going to be re-elected, anyway.

Term limits won't solve the problem, and could make it even worse.

Run better opposition candidates.
It could happen.
That's the issue. Quality candidates. We have none.

Trumps narcissistic. No denying that, and Bidens an aging gobbiley goobily blub blub ga ga incoherent rambling billionaire with a fetish for sniffing little girls and hugging Hillary.

False equivalence. Show proof of democratic oligarchy.
I do see billions in tax dollars going to republican oligarchs associated with Big Oil, Big Farm, Big Pharma, MIC, etc.

And sadly so. I would really like for us to to be wrong on this, but ...
I think you are wrong because I believe it will be different this time. Do you want to make a bet with me and then check back later?

Of course whether you are wrong or not depends upon what you are expecting Biden to do. If you expect him to move mountains you might be right. What I hope to see is some unification of this country.
