Which is worse, death or the fear of death? We all will die. It is my desire, when it arrives, that my death shall not bring with it fear.

Not trying to avoid the question, but it has to be fear of death for me. Death simply is. It's neither good, nor bad. It's inevitable.

A fear of death probably indicates unresolved issues, etc, and can negatively impact on your life. The death part happens regardless.

For many people i think it is the fear of death or actually the fear of the moment before death that scare them the most.

Is it painful
How will my relatives manage without me
I should have/should not have done
Will i feel the death when it happens

This kind of questions and the answer to them i think is what scare people who know they going to die. And not death in it self.

Life is harder than death...

I dunno --- from my perspective you have all these 'filters' that come with being in a mortal body that are not there once you're not. But, at the same time you couldn't be here without your own car to drive around in the matrix. It's a necessary evil...

You only have fear of death when you think nothing else is there or it's going to be some kind of loss... I don't feel that way, but at the same time I value my time here. I sort of appreciate the uniqueness of the plight life provides. It generates interesting problems and enjoyment. It's fun while it lasts...

I feel fear is worse than death. I fear painful experience when I die but even though I'd be scared of the dying process, I know I'd find acceptance. With fear, our alarm system us up so it's harder to find acceptance and peace at that moment. Death, however, (assuming if I had a terminal illness), there is a good amount of time (depending on the illness) to process. Though, if I picked on what to die of, I wouldn't know. Most likely it would probably be from getting hit by a car or something of that nature.

Life is addictive and it always kill you in the end. You can either accept that or live in fear of death.

I think fear is controlling. If you are afraid of heights, it removes your will and freedom from being able to fly. If you are afraid enclosures, it removes your will and freedom to use an elevator. If you are afraid of COVID, it removes your will and freedom to have community.

Depending on the depth and breadth of the fear will reveal itself by how much it controls our lives.

The more real our faith in an good afterlife, the less fear of death can control you.

Death itself will release you from that fear. It is the fear of death that is worse and controlling.

Individuals vary, so this question would be answered individually, with little overall consensus. Observing people on their deathbed or with incurable disease indicates that. Some are panicked, while others are calm, and that's on a continuum.

I learned a lot upon reflection at my reactions to the doctor who said to me, "Yes, you had a heart attack." Often people don't know their reaction until it happens. My reaction was one more of surprise that of fear. No fear at all, as I recall. "Oh wow! this could have happened right now." Before that time, I'd just gone along, not really having it sink in about my time.

I am not surprised any more by much. Anybody, any time, any place.

Practical examples of this, hubby has had cancer, a major operation followed intensive radiotherapy. As a result he has a weak immune system.

I have, in the last 20 months had 2 stomach operations, the incisions have left the muscles that control my breathing damaged.

In both cases catching covid will more than likely hit us both and in all certainly, kill us.

We have 3 children to consider and would rather like our lives ( or at least on of us ) to be around at least until the kids are indipendant.

Yes we are both afraid of covid, not for ourselves but the future of our children. And so have effectively self isolated since March and taken every precaution we can to avoid contracting the disease.

No so. I personally recognise that death is the end of my mind (my atoms will continue) i am comfortable with that. I find from talking to both believers and non believers that a believers fear of not making it to an afterlife is more fearsome

Death is inevitable so why should one attach any meaning to this? And we mostly all don't like pain - the fear might be what we tend to believe as to what happens when we die. I have no such fear, even though I might be destined for some kind of Hell. Hell deserves me.

I would miss knowing about the future of humans, but this applies to all anyway - and I have no doubt said this before.

If I die I want it to be a complete surprise and to happen so quickly that I get absolutely no honorable mention. I don't want people to say "He died bravely!" or "He fought right up until the end!" Keep the glory. I'll take the morphine.

Some fates are worse than death.... it has been said.....
Life in a limited and impaired capacity is certainly worse [mobility, perception, cognition, skills, etc]
life is tough enough if one has those things to some measure, but take them away and death will seem like getting out of a torturous jail.....
except the way out leads right back into it...revolving door policy.
I know that death is an event that my awareness will survive....not belief, not faith....
but that is my own knowing and seems useless to even share with others since I get challenged all the time, if I ever bring it up..... so typically I don't, since people are dubious bullies in my experience who tend to snipe at people, and cast doubt and aspersion before anything else.
being stuck in this place with everything the way it is , is certainly a fate that is often worse than death.... but death offers no change other than a respawn, and start being a manimal all over again from scratch, such fun [not].

Fear would be since its instinctual. There's really no control over it although you can be conditioned to deal with it while staying functional.
