Pastor Kicked Out by His Congregation Over Transphobic Church Sign

Eh, my wife threatens me sometimes, but I just ignore her ignorance and carry on. Sometimes I give her an earful, like last night when I told her she's my property since I bought her for 25 dollars from the courthouse the day we got married. Yeah, she got mad and stormed out of the house. She even hit me with an umbrella on the way out.

...But I'm not mad. :)
What? o_O Man, I think you need some lessons, from a man who had more wives than Mohammed Bello Abubakar.
Song of Solomon 4:1-16
1 “Look! You are beautiful, my beloved. Look! You are beautiful. Your eyes are those of doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats Streaming down the mountains of Gilʹe·ad. 2 Your teeth are like a flock of newly shorn sheep That have come up from being washed, All of them bearing twins, And not one has lost her young. 3 Your lips are like a scarlet thread, And your speech is delightful. Like a segment of pomegranate Are your cheeks behind your veil. 4 Your neck is like the tower of David, Built with courses of stone Upon which are hung a thousand shields, All the circular shields of the mighty men. 5 Your two breasts are like two fawns, The twins of a gazelle, That feed among the lilies.” 6 “Until the day grows breezy and the shadows flee, I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh And to the hill of frankincense.” 7 “You are altogether beautiful, my beloved, There is no blemish in you. 8 Come with me from Lebʹa·non, my bride, Come with me from Lebʹa·non. Descend from the peak of A·maʹnah, From the peak of Seʹnir, the peak of Herʹmon, From the lairs of lions, from the mountains of leopards. 9 You have captured my heart, my sister, my bride, You have captured my heart with one glance of your eyes, With one pendant of your necklace. 10 How beautiful your expressions of affection are, my sister, my bride! Your expressions of affection are far better than wine, And the fragrance of your perfume than any spice! 11 Your lips, my bride, drip with comb honey. Honey and milk are under your tongue, And the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebʹa·non. 12 My sister, my bride, is like a locked garden, A locked garden, a spring sealed shut. 13 Your shoots are a paradise of pomegranates With the choicest fruits, with henna along with spikenard plants, 14 Spikenard and saffron, cane and cinnamon, With all sorts of trees of frankincense, myrrh, and aloes, Along with all the finest perfumes. 15 You are a garden spring, a well of fresh water, And flowing streams from Lebʹa·non. 16 Awake, O north wind; Come in, O south wind. Breathe upon my garden. Let its fragrance spread.” “Let my dear one come into his garden And eat its choicest fruits.”

I believe the Bible predicted that there would be dark times just before the end of the world and Christians would be under attack.
Christians are hardly "under attack". Some Christians are being limited on their ability to spread hate. How would that be being under attack? As a Christian you should be outraged against this pastor as well. Abusing the Bible to use it as an excuse to hate others is the exact opposite of what Jesus taught.

What if he put up a sign saying he opposes adultery or divorce?
Both are condemned quite literally in the New Testament, so too
is homosexuality - quite explicitly.

What is happening now is that THE CHURCHES ARE LED BY
SOCIETY INSTEAD OF LEADING IT.

Don’t forget the abominable shrimps, lol.

When Christians start discriminating other human beings, they can very well expect to be under attack. It is a self fulfilling prophecy.

It is like the KKK complaining that modern times are dark and they are under attack.

Yet the same people who fire the pastor keep the bible. Looks like a double standard.

While what the pastor said is true (gay sex is a sin), what he said does not need to be said on a public sign for non-churchmembers to see.

...Everyone knows already.

I am sure he could find a job with a PCA church and be well shed of that apostate church.

The bible in the hands of a moron is like a gun in the hand of the mentally ill.

I would love to see one of those many evangelical Christian churches, full of Trump supporters, post a sign saying
"Trump is married to Ivana!"
And give a sermon on the evil of destroying the Family through divorce, quoting Jesus's very clear quotes.

But it won't happen. Because too many modern churches are lead by social mores, they can't lead. Or they'd lose money.
Can't run a business that way.

My problem with what people write against the churches is that
for the most part they are right. But I don't recognize the churches
as being Christian.
Christianity is what you read in the New Testament. When you
read of "Christians" marching upon Jerusalem or setting up the
Inquisition for instance, that is not Christianity but Catholicism.
Same as Jim Jones and his Coolaid. Don't judge Christianity
by those who deliberately breach its principles.

IMO, any church that has enough money to own a building or hire a full-time pastor has already gone far astray from the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels.

... but this doesn't make any of them not Christian.

True. It's said often enough that God does not dwell in temples made
with hands. Romans and Hebrews speaks against the "physical
sanctuary." Peter warns about those wolves creeping into the church
and "making merchandise" of them. Paul warns against observing
holy days.
The corruption was already there in the First Century. We are told to
"work out our own salvation with fear and trembling."

To have belonged to churches who quite visibly sought wealth, glory
and violence against others condemns you also. In Revelation, last
chapter I think, it speaks of those who not only lie, but those condemned
who maybe didn't lie, but loved the lies of others.

So, you're one of those people who think Christianity is a tiny little cult?

Christianity is what you read in the New Testament.
You mean, "What people have been reading for centuries", as opposed to what you read there?

Don't judge Christianity

How can I tell who the real Christians are, when there's no objective standard? You don't think that people who interpret and prioritize the same things you do are Christians. I don't find you a particularly authoritative source.

I believe that anybody who believes Jesus is superhuman is a Christian. I don't know of any way to determine that someone is a false Christian, when they seem convinced that Jesus is God.

Why should I believe you?

Lots believe Jesus is "superhuman" but a belief doesn't bring salvation.
There IS an objective standard to what a Christian is and that is any
person who seeks to reflect Christ and his standard in their life.

This is the essence of the Gospel. It was never about hell fire, judging
homosexuals, condemning the demon drink or whatever.

I agree with all of this.
But neither of us is authoritative enough to assert it, without any more support than our opinions.
Not if you expect to convince anybody of anything beyond your own self righteousness and egotistical illusions.

Wait, what... if I state that the objective standard of Christianity is the standard
of Christ this makes me, quote "self righteousness and egotistical" unquote.
Not sure how you get from my statement to yours. I simply stated one of the
most basic facts of the New Testament. I didn't mention myself.

Yes.
You have mentioned a few times who you think are Christians and who aren't.
I know a batch of Christians who don't agree with your interpretation of the stuff people claim that Jesus said.
Tom

Aren't gays migrating to Russia in droves today?
;)

As I like to say to Marxists, show me a Marxist society that worked.
As for gay rights - ordinary people in those societies had NO RIGHTS.
All rights went to the Ruling Class.
currently the gay rights in the soviet union is near zero.
much of this is , of course , due to orthadox christian view which is still strong in russia

Don't think there's many chapters of the New Testament which don't reiterate
that Christ is the standard - His love, grace, humility, piety, morality, forgiveness,
compassion and rejection of worldly values are simply Facts of the Gospels.

Let me rephrase anything I said. You are not behaving as a Christian if you do
not conform to the standard set in Christ. And that puts me in a difficult situation
as much as anyone else.

Without checking up on it I would suppose gay rights had no
part in Soviet Russia too. And, Christianity isn't that big in
Russia. What Russia DOES have is a conservative populace
who despise many of the value of the West.

I decided to check: LGBT history in Russia - Wikipedia

Also, I remember hearing that the KGB used to employ gay men to seduce prominent Western visitors in order to blackmail them.

I fully agree with you. You are Buddhist and Buddhism is founded upon non violence so how can we accept the violence against Rohingya by Buddhists? It’s hypocritical,to compromise the basic teachings of any religion and the Bible does not support homosexuality so then those who do support it should seriously consider whether they want to remain Christians or not.

Unfortunately materialists and atheists pounce on these things to denounce and discredit religion.
