Pastor Kicked Out by His Congregation Over Transphobic Church Sign

The only real negative I see is married men having affairs, since there's a victim in that. Baby outside marriage kind of thing comes too often if there isn't sexual education in schools. People used to live with it, though in many places you were a ******* all your life. A lesser being judged by others for something that was not your fault... it is probably better this way.

I don't think people in a relationship should cheat on their partners.

The above transphobic sign got Pastor Justin Hoke of the Trinity Bible Presbyterian Church in deep trouble with his congregation.

He put the sign up sometime around December 31st. In less than two weeks, he was out of a job. His congregation was disgusted with him and they rebelled almost to a person. Every couple in his church -- except one -- declared they would leave the Church if Hoke stayed on as Pastor.

Is the response to Hoke's sign a "sign of the times" (pun shamelessly intended)?

Questions? Comments?

Yet the same people who fire the pastor keep the bible. Looks like a double standard.

I think this was explained in Ezekiel 16:49:

Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door.

That sounds vaguely familiar. It would also indicate that the Bible views some sins as far worse than others.

Reads like some liberal, cultural Marxist trope. Except that it's in Ezekiel.
Notwithstanding, Genesis says the sin of Sodom against Lot was the
homosexuality. I suppose there's heavy doses of pride, gluttony, laziness
and widespread poverty in many a city.
Yet the same people who fire the pastor keep the bible. Looks like a double standard.

They don't read ALL of their bible. Lots of church people these days
don't even own a bible - one is provided if they need it as their church.
Today an elderly couple in my town said they were thinking of leaving
their Anglican or United Church because of its toleration of homosexuality.
Trouble is, they are both divorced and remarried. That's in the bible, too.

better to be kicked out of a backslidden church then compromise to keep your job and get thrown into the lake of fire with them

Yes, it is a sign of the times. Communication is key now, as it was millennia ago.

I dont want to judge any of the parts involved, but should not a priest preach the bibles words? and when he do he get kicked out?
Or should he adapt to what people want to hear because it is comfortable today?

While what the pastor said is true (gay sex is a sin), what he said does not need to be said on a public sign for non-churchmembers to see.

...Everyone knows already.

Since i am a Buddhist i see Christian faith out of what is written in the bible.
Selected bits of the Bible, apparently, and very specific interpretations of those.

and as far as i can read, it say Homosexual act is a sin.
And as far as I can read, the Bible claims that Christians "died to the Law with Christ," so the law of sin no longer applies.

so the priest does not do wrong when he advocate that his church does not look at homosexuality as a right way.
He's putting a stumbling block in the way of every trans person, gay person, or person who has empathy for trans or gay people. Do you know what the Bible says about putting a stumbling block in front of someone else?

But if the person who is Gay does not live in a sexual relationship with an other of same sex, they can still be good christians. so the part of being gay in it self is not the sin, it is the act.
That's one interpretation. Every interpretation I've ever heard of the Bible has it saying that it's wrong to judge others, so I think it's the pastor who's clearly the hypocrite here.

God made humans, "in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them" (Genesis 1:26), and this was so before the fall. This passage is used to show that human persons are male or female.
That's one interpretation, though it conflicts with normal interpretations of other passages.

  • For similar reasons, gender is eternal. A person who has her breasts cut off, like St. Agatha, does not cease to be a female.
... because her gender identity didn't change.

  • Even a person who has his head cut off, like St. John, does not cease to be a male. Adam and Eve will rise still male and female, as they were even before sin.
I'm not sure what you think decapitation has to do with gender expression.

I am sure he could find a job with a PCA church and be well shed of that apostate church.

Interesting. The churches I grew up in were apparently even more right-wing than I thought, because the view held on the sign was the view held by essentially all members of the congregations of those churches.

core to Christian spirituality

My test for what the Bible says is core is the NT's passages on the Two Greatest Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount as well as other supporting verses. I know and honor such Christians who seek to follow these words:

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

And also these which illuminate the Sermon:

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
