Definition of "Christian", your opinion

What is your definition of "Christian"? Does it include all the denominations that had a beginning with the New Testament? What's your opinion on this? I think this has caused some confusion on RF.

As far as I'm concerned, anybody who believes that Jesus was anything more impressive than a prophet. (To avoid starting a discussion on the details of how Muslims view Jesus, assume that as far as I'm concerned, Muslims do NOT fit into my definition of Christian.)

My definition includes groups that many Christians hesitate to refer to as Christians, i.e. Mormons.

Despitee the difference of theological issues, id say a christian is anyone who believes the NT is legit scripture.

I would say that it is anyone who follows Christ or Jesus and thinks he is the only way to God. Too bad the gnostic scriptures of Jesus were mostly destroyed and reimagined by Constantine and Paul and thus leaving Christians following a false idea of Jesus, thus leaving no "true" Christ followers.

I believe anyone who believes in Jesus and seeks to know him as a path to God, as a Christian.

One does not need to even claim exclusivity - Christianity, in my most humble opinion, is a lifestyle, culture, and a way of life.

There are enough "Gnostic" scriptures remaining to give a good idea of what the various "Gnostic" sects believed. Not all of them were nearly as "Gnostic" as the "heresy-hunters" would have wanted their audience to believe, such as the Gospel of Philip. But yes, Paul seems to have re-imagined what it meant to be Christian.

One will find that most Christians rely near exclusively on the Pauline Epistles, and often even use them to trump or negate what Jesus said. But Constantine was not the one who "re-imagined" it, he was just going with whatever the Bishops said, as he didn't want the civil disruptions to get out of hand.

Someone who has been christened or follows the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I am an atheist Christian, because I was christened before I became atheist.

Someone who has been taught the truth about Christ, exercises faith in God and Christ, becomes a baptized disciple and thereafter follows the Christ. (John 14:1, Matthew 28:19,20, Galatians 2:16, Matthew 10:38) Merely professing to be Christian avails one nothing. (Matthew 7:21-23)
