“It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”

Don't let Christian's claims -or even your own -discount what Pail plainly stated in the chapter.
And I haven't. I didn't disagree or discount anything he said.

Context explains the very reason he made the remark in the first place.
As I read it, he didn't make the remark, but merely agreed with it.

You are simply incorrect about this.
Well, "simply" is no explanation, but if you're bailing here, so be it.

1 Corinthians 7:1 (NIV)

1 Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.
Anyone care to explain god's (speaking through Paul) rather odd declaration here?

I heartily agree with God on this. I don't see that it needs explanation. It appears to be an obvious truth.

1Cor.7:2-3 says,
"Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband."
Paul was teaching us that we should give more time in praying rather than pleasing ourselves always.
verse5,
"Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control. "

Paul wrote that not only in his own opinion but he has the spirit of God.

As you well know, the Bible is riddled with contradictions, both of fact and proclamation, which I leave to the believer to sort out. Christians claim Paul's writings were inspired by god (2 Timothy 3:16) and as such, his acceptance of the idea that "It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman" comes with the imprimatur of god.

I find several contradictions in Paul's writings, and I don't know if it's because he was trying to zealously be all things to all people and fudging a little on his accuracy, if letters attributed to Paul were authored by more than Paul alone, if in addressing different congregations' questions he very specifically gave answers intended for only those congregations (not foreseeing his letters being canonized as holy writ), or if we can't possibly understand something written in another language and culture from two thousand years ago regardless of the extent of scholarship on the matter. Sorry for the long sentence. Hell, few people understand my Facebook posts, and I only hope that scholars in 3020 will study massive tomes analyzing today's culture to figure them out.

I've heard there's a debate on Paul's different writing styles. He dictated some, maybe all, of his letters to scribes. I don't know enough about this area to know if scribes infused their own styles into writings, or if they took down writer's words verbatim. Angellous might know....

At any rate, the divine status of such disputed writing puzzles me.

My personal opinion is that Paul was repressing his homosexuality.
Perhaps that is why he attacked homosexual practices, but not homosexuals themselves.
And advocating celibacy protected him from what he considered to be his own failings.

We are to crucify the flesh of its passions and desires, deny the flesh, and walk according to the spirit. Its not odd at all it goes with the theme of the NT.

From what I can tell, your reply is completely irrelevant.

So what should we then make of . . .

Violet.
Some people experience God in their partner,
and in the love of their partner.

Some people experience God in sex and love making.

Perhaps Paul was.... just some guy....... sayin' stuff.....

I make nothing of most of it, since I am a NT christian, most of what you have here is old law. Romans 10:4

Is it good for a woman to not have sexual relations with a man?

Should I stop asking irreverent, irrelevant questions?

Who likes Wendy's new fries? So potato-ey!

Sorry, Skwim...just being sassy.

From yur avitar, your not worthy of the truth, just an intellectuaul playing aound. Saul of Tarsus is one you should aspire to the grace of God. Good Luck with it all.

That's right! Only those with truth-worthy avatars should be allowed into God's kingdom. The rest of all y'all will burn forever in the shame of your non-truth-worthiness, wishing you had but chosen the right truthful picture in an anonymous online forum, like Truth Hunter's avitar [sic], for example.
