I guess getting a little drunk once in a while isn't bad. I don't like the "drunk" feeling myself, it doesn't feel good to me. But I do know that it feels good to others- like my husband.

Alcohol: God's beef or God's gift?

I guess getting a little drunk once in a while isn't bad. I don't like the "drunk" feeling myself, it doesn't feel good to me. But I do know that it feels good to others- like my husband.
You are not alone, I feel that way about it as well. If I am to put it in a blunt way, I tolerate alcohol. I don´t like it.

I drink 1-2 glasses of red wine nearly every day - unless I haven't been to the store, and then I don't find it at all difficult to substitute hot tea for a glass of wine. But I do like my routine of coming home, fixing dinner and then relaxing with my husband after dinner with a glass of wine.
Once in a blue moon, he and I will tie one on. By this I mean, drink several drinks on a Friday night in the privacy of our own home, and crank up the karaoke machine and dance and sing together till about 2 am, and then fall into the bed and engage in very carnal behaviors, and then sleep in the next day. Personally I can't see any harm in this. It's fun, we're not driving, and neither of us is an angry or stupid drunk. All we do when we have four or five drinks under our belt is get silly, and then romantic, and then laid.
Thank goodness we're married to each other, is all I have to say about that.

I think we can find ways to get ourselves out of it without any help from gods.
I guess I don't like it as much as I used to.
Watching a group of friends spending life working through the week so they can afford to get drunk on the weekend is a bit worrying. Especially when there doesn't seem to be much to their social lives EXCEPT getting plastered on the weekend.
Also living in a country where, almost universally, one is not considered to be "having a good time" unless there is alcohol involved doesn't help my declining affection for it.
Don't get me wrong, I like a beer every now and then, but excess seems to the be the norm around here and it's tiresome and dangerous.
Even the Hávamál says:
Less good than they say for the sons of men
is the drinking oft of ale:
for the more they drink, the less can they think
and keep a watch o'er their wits
And that comes from a people renowned for their love of drink.

I do. Many pot-smokers have told me they don't like the feeling of being drunk (not that I'm calling you a pot-smoker), but they do like the feeling of being high. I'm the opposite. The only reason I don't get drunk every day is that I often have to drive or use power tools. Oh, and right now I'm trying to lose weight, which sucks, because I traditionally drink more in the summer than any other time of year.
