  • I love the avatar. It's weird, you are the 3rd or 4th person on this forum to recently embrace Sanatan Dharma.
I have a neighbor who is Hindu too. Problem is I don't know WHICH mandir she goes to, and it's 30 minutes by car to the closest one, and I can't even stand my neighbor lol. At least the gurdwara is a 5 minute drive. Problem is, I can't drive. But then again, going to gurdwara services isn't the point of Sikhism, nor does it necessarily make you a good or devout Sikh.
That's understandable. It's just too much for me :p Plus, I don't have a local mandir.
I'm still looking into, not sure though. I like Hinduism too, I just find it too complex and other stuff.
I'm ok. I'm still leaning towards to Sikhism so :p

    Anyways, who/what is Aranchula hill?
Well they haven't mocked me for that... Rather, they mock me b/c of my interest in Sikhism.
Well viewing something as odd is usually harmless... My family has mocked me for my interest :(
I think my "condensed" theology now is going to be more like that I see Gotama Buddha and the Sikh gurus as the Sat-gurus of Ik Oankar (one reality).
My parents aren't as liberal so you are lucky. My parents do understand my curiosity, yes... but they do not understand Sikhism or those religions (except Buddhism).
Yes my family is Jewish; that is why my dad would of found it offensive. As for the shrine, I have changed the shrine to emphasize more on myself and my interests. I now have books to reflect my intellectual interests (they are the Lotus Sutra and B Gita); I have a globe to reflect my interest in geography, politics, and biology. I also have a tzedakah box to remind me to do good things (a tzedakah box is a box in which you put change into for charity).
Just try to keep it nice and simple. I just have the Buddha and the picture of the Maitreya Buddhas up currently. I got rid of the rest b/c my dad would of seen it as offense and also I know already what I believe so I don't need the other stuff.
Ya, as I said though, I basically got rid of a lot of the shrine. I ended up growing too attached to it I think.
