Why do some Atheists say Christianity is harmful?

I know that is what Christians believe, but I, like many other former Christians, do not. And when I say many other former Christians, I'm referring to those in my survivors of childhood abuse support group who, like me, suffered abuse at the hands of their Christian parents and had prayed to the biblical God to protect and save us from the abuse. But our prayers went unanswered, and each of us still suffered abuse (physical, sexual, psychological, and spiritual) at the hands of our Christian parents or other Christian relatives for several years while we were growing up. In my opinion, I think it's quite misleading, even intended to be deceptive at times, for Christians to say that God is love. I, for one, reject that and see the biblical God as a sadistic and psychotic tyrant.

In my opinion, the biblical God is like a narcissistic and abusive father who only "loves" his children when they do or say precisely what he wants. And his children hope that if they don't make him angry, he won't hurt them, but they're unsure because he has a violent temper and is known to lash out when he is angry. So if they disobey him and upset him, then there will be hell for them to pay. That isn't a healthy relationship founded on unconditional love and respect, but rather on consistent fear and mistrust. It's an abusive relationship. According to the Bible, God is capable of hatred in addition to wrath and jealousy, and he committed global genocide. To be quite honest, I don't believe that anyone should derive their understanding of morality from the Bible.

I didnt say executing heretics is ok per se, dont miscontrust me. And pope francis cant just excommunicate people he doesnt like. Also if that would happen i would just become orthodox.

Do you even look at the news? It's a thing. Even the Pope acknowledges it's a systemic problem. And there is also a similar scandal concerning American Evangelicals.

Thats mosaic law, back then really troublesome people were executed because they could endanger the social cohesion. So i dont see a problem with that. Nowadays we have prisons etc. to deal with them.

Obviously not all Atheists claim this, most atheists dont really care about ones faith. However there are some atheists who claim Christianity is harmful as a religion. They tend to be more on the antitheist side.

My question is why? And how? How is christianity in any way form or shape harmful? Some say its because of the strict rules, but how is that bad? How are rules who lead to a better society bad?

And how is sexual purity exactly a bad thing? I dont see how Christianity can be harmful at all. So why do they claim it?

You bring up sexual purity in your OP, which means you are against homosexuality, as evidenced further in this thread. What do you think should happen to me, someone who is in a gay relationship with another guy? Should I not be allowed to love who I want to love?

Im not sure. Either way this "love" isnt permited according to the Bible, and i dont want to draw Gods anger on me, so i try to not act on it.
