What it would be like to have pride in my country?

I'm a little confused why the federal government has such a large impact on your life to begin with.
Believe it or not, it is possible to be critical of things that do not directly impact you. Do you not feel just a little bit guilty that your tax dollars (if you are from the US) perpetuate seemingly infinite conflict in the middle east? Or that people in the country die due to lack of access to healthcare despite being one of the "wealthiest" nations in the world? Or that we are leading the entire world in COVID deaths?

He hasn't learned to de-focus upon it.
This is important for happiness & equanmity.
Shame on me for not being able to de-focus on what I see as basic humanitarian needs (peace, medical care, social justice, etc). Some are able to do so easier than others.

Any thoughts about how to his becoming happier with the location?

No, we've tried about everything. I don't care for it here, either, so I'm sure that doesn't help.

Looks boring, people are insincere, its not a great place for vegetarians.

Locally, we enjoy the variety in grocery stores, however.

I don't focus my attention much on statistics or ideologies. I'm more into physical reality I guess. The things I can change or make better take precedence in my thinking.

Oh, you....it's about taking control of your happiness & equanimity.
Sometimes it doesn't mean a move...sometimes it does.
The more options one creates for oneself, the easier it becomes.

I can't escape it though, what is our identity as a nation? What do we stand for? At any level of analysis, the outcome is the came: capitalist corruption.

I am watching a UFC event tonight and it is common to hear fighters talk about their country and are proud to be where they are from. I like to fantasize about what that would be like because my country (the US) is a real piece of ****. A place where the likes of Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Lauren Boebert get elected on purpose.

If I traveled abroad, I would lie about where I came from if asked. I do not see any justifiable reason to be proud of being from here. We have no identity, our politicians pander to the lowest common denominator, we terrorize nations from half a world away via drone strikes, we let legislation be bought by the highest bidder, we allow our school kids to get shot up multiple times a year, we watched as a pandemic ripped our population apart, we let our countrymen go into insurmountable debt for basic medical treatment, etc etc etc.

If I could, I could leave and never come back. This place sucks.

Why does anyone need to have pride in their country? What value is there in that?

It's not physical reality...it's a perspective, ie, a weltanschuung.
Unlike reality, it's malleable...even if it currently doesn't feel like it.
The drone strikes are not a physical reality? Lack of healthcare isn't a reality? COVID deaths aren't a reality? Must be nice wherever your reality exists.

One option is to try to effect the change you want,
while appreciating the positives. And ignore those
capitalism haters...they have no alternative.

I sense something else going on though.

I want to feel like I belong somewhere that reflects my own values and focuses on the collective good instead of individual prosperity. The US does not do that, it is all about individual gain and profit.

There are things in the real world. How
some affect you is not a fixed reality.

So you want to live somewhere where everyone agrees with your ideas... o_O

I don’t think that's possible anywhere. Well, maybe a tiny little place, if there's a country with like 10 people.

I belong to some communities...ones I choose.
I do not belong to groups I despise.

But if you want to avoid capitalism & individual
prosperity, be careful...investigate your alternatives
before jumping in with both feet. The grass isn't
always greener elsewhere.

At the very least, somewhere that at least pretends to care about others outside of their own circle. Posters on this very thread illustrate what I mean.

I live in an area dominated by crazy liberals.
To me, this is interesting. So they believe some
awful things. I just go to work on them.
