I went from a six-pack to a pony keg.My tummy was once flat. But then I converted at middle age to the round tummy theory.

There was once a popular belief that the Earth was flat, that had we sailed too far, our ship would fall over the edge.
I haven't anything to add. I guess it's a reminder that things are not always as scary as they might seem.

That whole flat earth thing has been around for a while. In fact, it seems it has come full circle. There was once a popular belief that the Earth was flat, that had we sailed too far, our ship would fall over the edge.

Well, they have to do that to level the playing field and keep their views edgy.Am I the only one who is disturbed by their circular arguments?
This has not been the view of the educated people in society since about 500BC.There was once a popular belief that the Earth was flat, that had we sailed too far, our ship would fall over the edge.

Believing the earth is curved is not the same as believing it is spherical necessarily though.Any sailor would have realised the sea is curved.
That's true. Though a spherical earth was the view among at least some philosophers by the time of Pythagoras in 500BC and Eratosthenes got as far as measuring its circumference in 300BC. A spherical earth was the view by the time the Ptolemaic system came to be devised, which was the model in use through the Middle Ages.Believing the earth is curved is not the same as believing it is spherical necessarily though.

As you've demonstrated, there are a lot of people who vehemently resist scientific literacy, so the existence genuine flat-earthers isn't far fetched.I think they are trolling. That's my personal opinion.

There was a documentary on these flat Earth proponents on Netflix a while back. It was pretty interesting. There seems to be some sort of psychological thing going on. A kind of paranoid logic trap that causes people to be attracted to these weird alternative realities and to fight to maintain them. They NEED to be the 'rare visionary' that sees through the mass delusion that everyone else has fallen for.As you've demonstrated, there are a lot of people who vehemently resist scientific literacy, so the existence genuine flat-earthers isn't far fetched.
Amd if the world was flat then cats would have knocked almost everything off the planet by now. There was once a popular belief that the Earth was flat, that had we sailed too far, our ship would fall over the edge.
