@KenS
If prayers are like converses between two parties, then if God don’t directly answer your prayer, eg if you get absolute silence after praying, then aren’t you the one who could be praying wrong?
Or could it be there are no god to pray to?
Too many variables to give a canned answer.
For an example, "Lord, I want two Mercedes Benz by tomorrow" and then one wonders why there is silence.
But, IMV, there is a God that is listening (or moaning 'really?", or laughing ('are you kidding?'). Or "you already know the answer and I'm not repeating myself".
Excuse me, but if god can exist everywhere at once (hence, omnipresent) and all-knowing (omniscient) as some Christians believe him to be, then the power of god (omnipotent) should have no problem with answering everyone’s prayers, including rebuking those with childish or greedy agenda.
Even though I certain am not opposed to praying for something not selfish, I tend to think that most prayers are really for us, which is why I believe "contemplative prayer" is preferable over rote prayer or self-centered prayer. IOW, sorta like asking the Boss "Am I praying for the right reason, and/or is there something I can do to help fulfill my own prayer?".
That's me = m-a-t-u-r-e.Then, as we mature, it is about others.
As the very old saying goes... "I looked under the bed and saw so much dirt, I didn't know if someone was coming or going".That's me = m-a-t-u-r-e.
I'm not quite as old as dirt, but I think I'm gaining on it. Next, I'm going to try and remember seeing the Big Bang-- oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmm.
There's another joke with the same ending but I don't think I'll post it here.As the very old saying goes... "I looked under the bed and saw so much dirt, I didn't know if someone was coming or going".
Evolution us based on knowledge of the present world and nature and how it works, and by faith it projects this onto the past also. That is a claim that the 'natural' world we see today was always the same. Faith based. One cannot call this true, but only believed. What is Science?
1. Science is the systematic enterprise to gain knowledge about the natural world (universe). 2. This is done by creating models with explanatory and predictive power which can be and are tested by their predictions.
In what sense does evolutionary theory assume that the natural world was always the same?Evolution us based on knowledge of the present world and nature and how it works and by faith it projects this onto the past also. Since the models created are all based on the same premise one cannot call it knowledge, only belief.
Evolutionary biology is a scientific theory. In that sense it follows the axioms of science, in this case the assumption of an orderly universe. In what sense does evolutionary theory assume that the natural world was always the same?
Well, I can tell you about my experience...What is mind boggling to me, is the change of a caterpillar to liquid in a cocoon to a butterfly..... how can that happen by chance or evolution?
If you take a close look at just about anything in the world around you you'll find mind-boggling processes taking place. What is mind boggling to me, is the change of a caterpillar to liquid in a cocoon to a butterfly..... how can that happen by chance or evolution?
I don't call it faith, but, yes, science rests on unproven assumptions. So would you agree with @dad that evolution rests on faith?
Well, I can tell you about my experience...
To the question, maybe both Divine creation and chance were involved?
That doesn't quite match the process of a caterpillar turning to a liquid and then to get the DNA just right to produce a butterfly. If you take a close look at just about anything in the world around you you'll find mind-boggling processes taking place.
This might be a useful place to begin, however: How Did Insect Metamorphosis Evolve?
Did you read the article? That doesn't quite match the process of a caterpillar turning to a liquid and then to get the DNA just right to produce a butterfly.
