There are political reasons why Ben Shapiro isn't very well liked by the left. So depending on the comments you are reading, some of the backlash could just be because Shapiro said it.

You are right, my bad, I thought we were in the "jokes forum", but I see now that this is the "serious religious debate forum"Well...facts show your example was a false equivalence.
LoL...actually the point of the thread is to underline that humor about religions can be very funny and respectful, as Ben Shapiro did.You are right, my bad, I thought we were in the "jokes forum", but I see now that this is the "serious religious debate forum"
I will switch over to serious talk again
I would have been surprised if you would, knowing that you have as Religion: PelagianismIn fact I don't side with those Christians who criticized him.
Our Lord suffers only if we harm others.I would have been surprised if you would, knowing that you have as Religion: Pelagianism
I agree, and I love it the way you said itOur Lord suffers only if we harm others.
Not if we make funny jokes about Him.
Ben Shapiro is offensive for other reasons than his dumb joke there, such as the vile things he says about trans women.Ben Shapiro has tweeted this today.

I don't think it is offensive. I am sure our Lord Jesus laughed at it. But some Christians and some American Conservatives I follow, felt offended. Why?
Someone who looks kind of effeminate in that plausibly-deniable way so Gibson can deny that he's a homophobe. It depends on who's playing the devil.
Yea, the tweet in the original post is probably the least offensive thing Shapiro has written in his entire life so farBen Shapiro is offensive for other reasons than his dumb joke there, such as the vile things he says about trans women.
It was a thorn in your side, but you've finally nailed it.Ok...I get it now...
Some folks take their stories a wee too seriously. Happens to the best of us. Don't get me wrong - mythology is very serious stuff. They are sacred stories that guide and govern a people's way of life. But humor and good spirits needs to be part of that equation too, I think, yeah? One can keep to one's sacred stories while still cracking a smile.
Well...I advise people to go on making jokes about Christianity. Exclusively.
It is safer.
Are you proposing that Christianity could use a Trickster God?
(I'm saying this with my tongue in my cheek)
Technically, their god is all the things, right? Tricks and laughs can be in keeping with omnibenevolence, right? Humor good for the soul and all that?
Jesus was a trickster type, imo. Being a trickster can be dangerous, as evidenced by what happened to Jesus. Your mileage may vary. Are you proposing that Christianity could use a Trickster God?

The joke was neither vulgar nor offensive. Its offensive. To get offended natural. But the more mature people will shrug it off as an offensive joke. Offensive jokes are very funny for some people while some would take offence.
A joke being offensive doesn't mean we have to react offensively.
The joke was neither vulgar nor offensive.
It is what I call intelligent wit.
