Well you learn something new everyday, Atheism is a religion

Atheism looks like religion, smells like religion...

Except it quite obviously doesn't. No matter how much some atheists are religious, or some atheists get together for meetings that look like religious meetings, doesn't mean that atheism is any of those things. The word has a simple, straightforward meaning that describe a lack of belief in gods.

FFS this isn't difficult!

The guy is into Atheism bashing in a big way, telling him facts is not going to reduce his gleeful jig because he thinks he has found a loophole just s justify his hatred of atheism

No you’re not. You’ve not quoted or referenced any “religious atheists” at all, certainly not any stating that atheism is a religion. Your initial position was correct – atheism is not a religion – and anyone who actually states otherwise is simply wrong.

Hey, so glad you noticed. How does this differ from atheist attacks on religion?

Because I assume people here would like to do their own research rather than being spoon fed,, but here you go, I hope this one is at your level

The fact that you are talking bull, redefining the word Atheism to massage your own ego and refuse to acknowledge any attempt at correcting your deliberate f*** up

I do not know of any atheist who has to lie to argue against religion. Obviously not so the other way round eh?

Oh I do you, or can't you remember saying 'science has created life, at least three time to my knowledge'

You seem to be unable to distinguish between the existence of religious atheists and atheism itself actually being a religion.

I wasn't questioning the existence of religious atheists but your specific assertion that religious atheists claim that atheism is a religion. A claim that specific isn't one you can expect people to just research, it's something you should be backing up (which, incidentally, that link doesn't appear to do).

'In 1963, just two years after the birth of Unitarian Universalism, Rabbi Sherwin Wine announced to his congregation in Windsor, Ontario that he hadn’t believed in God’s existence for quite some time. Wine invited those who wished to do so to follow him in creating a nontheistic Jewish congregation. Eight families did so.'

What does that have to do with anyone stating that atheism is a religion? If anything it suggests the exact opposite since he was apparently seeking to create a specific religion that wasn't simply atheism alone.

They weren’t ‘practicing atheism’. They were atheists engaging in religious behaviour.

One view of the etymology of the word religion is that it comes from the Latin religare...to bind together.

Religion is social bonding.

What does that have to do with anyone stating that atheism is a religion? If anything it suggests the exact opposite since he was apparently seeking to create a specific religion that wasn't simply atheism alone.

Exactly.

Yes, showing a meeting in a religious space proves your point entirely,,,,,,?

Atheism looks like religion, smells like religion, but isn't a religion because that would make it sound like it's associated with God,, yep, got it now
A lack of belief, with no doctrine, ethical system, rituals, or beliefs looks like a religion?
I suppose your lack of belief in unicorns is a religion, as well.

An atheist can be religious, as can an a-Thorist or an a-unicornist, but lack of belief, per se, is not a religion.

But OK, religious atheists make insane claims you happy now?
What insane claims do atheists make? Atheists, per se, make no claims; zero, zilch. They just lack a particular belief.

Are you confusing a defense or explanation with an attack?

It's usually the theists who are attacking. They're the ones feeling threatened. Apparently they perceive the inconvenient reasoning of the non-believers as an existential threat, ergo, an attack.

I have been saying this for years. Regardless of all the word play, its 100% a religion.
In what way? How are you defining religion?
Atheism has none of the features usually associated with religion: no beliefs, no doctrine, no worship, no rituals, no doctrine.
