The people who fought in World War II were less interested in eradicating racism than they were in striking back at an invasion of our country. The war in the pacific was much more urgent due to "those Nips" having invaded US soil than the war in Europe where Hitler was more a problem as an enemy of democracy than a racist committing genocide against the Jews.
So I think many of the brave soldiers of WWII would look at America today and see a peaceful invasion/integration of the world and respond in the style of the two camps we see today.
For starters, people back then didn't swear to the extent people do today.
Most were church going folk. They didn't have the divorce rate we have
today. In my country gambling was illegal. A lot of what passes for adult
entertainment would have been banned as pornography. They even had
to find a stripper to model the first bikini.
You hear people today talking about the "racism" or "sexism" or
whatever back in WWII times. Movies show how "hypocritical" these
people were. I take that as a form of psychological Transference or
Projection - it's ourselves who have the growing problem.
As an aside. From 1962 to 1992 the crime rate went through the roof.
But when I tried to put this out to liberals I was told these figures are
just the result of "better reporting" and such. Now that the crime rate
has gone down the same people will point to the figures to prove their
point that the world is becoming a better place. This underscores a
congenital dishonesty in how people see their world.
