Atheism : disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.

Nothing more, nothing less.

All you need to do is prove a god, any god exists and you will decimate atheism at a stroke. Never happened in around 10,000 years of god worship, i dont expect any changes to that record in the near future. But feel free...

Nope, I don't have to prove anything

Oh, and rational people don't think dictionary definitions cover any subject in depth

No you dont have to prove gods exist and you know you cant... Shame i am certain there would be a Nobel piece prize for success.

So you dont go by dictionary definitions but rather rely on your sensibilities? That explains your confusion.

Only the definition, but you seem to think otherwise, not my problem if you are confused about the English language

Only the definition?

You posted 'Atheism : disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.

Nothing more, nothing less.

anything else attributed to atheism tends to be people trying to score extra god points

Which means atheism in your view, is just and only what is written in a dictionary

Yes i have lack any belief that god or gods exist. I have many other views on various aspects of life, but as far as Atheism goes, the dictionary definition sums it up.

Now if you can attribute any other aspect of my life that you believe to come under the definition of Atheism and it is not represented in that definition please be forthcoming. I love to see language develope and grow and i am sure the dictionary compilers will welcome your input.

Well actually an atheist is a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods

You seem to be using atheism to depersonalise atheists

Nope, just pointing out you're using atheism as a depersonalised term for atheist

And actually many atheists dislike the term atheism because it implys a level of organisation that is simply not there

She is right. Atheism is about as bland as leftover communion wafers way past their expiration date

And so are most atheists when you look at it.

Mr. Atheist: I am an atheist!
Innocent Bystander: So?
Mr. Atheist: Look at me!

Many think that atheism makes them interesting.

No i am not and dont try shifting the blame for your ignorance of Atheism onto me.

I am using atheism and atheist as per the definitions. Whether you think the definitions depersonalise the user is not my problem.

That is total bull, atheism, from the greek, a-theos, meaning without gods. There is nothing more or less to add to that. Of course some atheists, me included, object to the misuse of the word by theist who just cant get their head around the concept of disbelief or they are just haters who cannot stand that people think differently to them.

I think the confusion arises on the part of some theist and atheists themselves when they view atheism as being some sort of philosophy or ideology. And it is not just theists that make that mistake but some atheists do as well. They live and breathe atheism, atheism informs everything, they deal with people as an atheist.

I just view it as defined, i have never met or heard of an atheist who thinks Atheism is more or less than the definition. I have encountered many theist who seem to thing Atheism includes everything from the bubonic plague to aids.

Also accept the evidence of evolution, that does not make me atheist, many catholics (and other denominations) accept evolution.

I know 28 hypothesis of how the universe formed, none say 'god dun it' that does not make me atheist, at last 4 of those hypothesis are written (or co-written) by cosmologists who are believers in the abrahamic god.

What does make me (and every other) atheist is lack of belief in god.

Spam, wonderful spam (bloody vikings!)
Oxford. And he is definitely a result of the British public school system. He even condones "mild paedophilia"

Definitely a decent chap then. Soon be up for a knighthood I shouldn't wonder.
"Sir Richard" has a nice ring to it. Then eventually he'll be in the House of Lords, fraternising with the Bishops. Jolly good stuff! Top table!
Maybe he'll get a Sainthood one day too. He'd fit in well with the Church of England, they have quite a lot of atheists these days.
