Good News for Gays

What I have found is that is something we can have control over, we can steer the course of our heart, only to the extent we let go, mind can control feelings and it then becomes our choices.

Thus what we use to motivate our mind is a choice. Passion can motivate mind to make our choices. One can consider other motivational sources.

Science and medicine do not agree, and attempts to alter sexual orrientation have been denounced and condemned as dangerous and destructive.

So you can control your natural hetero attraction? You can switch it over to gay, with your mind? If there is such a thing as control in the attraction to which gender, surely it goes both ways?

This is the biggest problem with religious folks.
They confidently believe that their opinions are from a Higher Power, so evidence and reason go out the window. They are so caught up in their own ego that they don't want to hear about reality.

Yup. They believe their spoon-fed "wants" are directly from god and they have to force it on everyone. I really cant say it surprises me some of the most "post-christian" cities in America are far greater at "love thy neighbor" and minding the motes in their own eye than those thumping their Bibles and pointing out how little one hour a week is to dedicate to god. I kind of hope the Bible is real just so I can enjoy watching Jesus getting especially OT on punishing those who claimed to love him the most.

That is also a subject that will raise many emotions, but at the same time laws are needed.
Many years ago I was a member of a local group called the Interfaith Forum. We met monthly to talk about religious beliefs.

One of the regulars was David. He drove over an hour each way to participate.

David was an articulate, informed, Bahai. Living in southern Indiana, which was a bit difficult for anyone who isn't a Christian. I know that.

I knew him and he knew me, I'm a gay atheist Catholic etc. This was before the SCOTUS ruling on marriage equality, but while Governor Pence was trying to add marriage inequality to the Indiana state constitution. I asked him if he thought that it should be.
He said yes. He said that he didn't have a problem with gay people, but Bahaullah says that God does. So he does. I pressed him a bit, because it mattered to me. "Why do you want gay people to be prevented from having basic civil equality?".

He was pretty clear. He doesn't have any personal opinions. He couldn't say why he thought that Doug and I shouldn't be allowed to get married. He just believed whatever Bahaullah said that God said and so he will say it.
Evidence, reason, truth, none of that matters. Some human told him what to believe, and so he does. His religion doesn't allow truth, it's all about which human tells you what to believe. He picked his authority, and he won't believe anything except what that human tells him to believe.
That's when I realized that Bahai is just another religion. People making up stuff about God, and believing it regardless of reality.

I think God will explain it someday so everyone understands

I stopped listening to him when I heard Krishna play his bansuri (it’s a flute). He has an infinitely better sense of humor and compassion. And sense of style... he be smooove as silk wit da ladies.

Why do humans claim that they know this stuff, without anything resembling objective data?

Agreed. I was wondering the same thing. What would possess a person to believe and speak this way?

Well, I guess that's one way to avoid reality.
I wish you well also.
