The other night I was with a group friends talking about this and that, and for whatever reason the conversation drifted into sex education. In comparing how our educations were handled one of the women told a story about a close friend of hers and how she began the sex education of her two young daughters. As the woman in our group remembers it, the girls were about four and six. After her friend had told her daughters about the difference between men and women she had her husband come into the room buck naked so they could see what an actual penis looked like.
After the somewhat dismayed reaction among us died down, all but one of us agreed it was a harmless act, and that the girls probably didn't think much else of it after that, although they may have told their friends---who knows? The one exception among us thought it was sex abuse,

So, what do you think; an inappropriate piece of sex education or not?

How about a reasonable piece of sex education?

Let's Talk About the Birds and the Bees

There's sex education books. Seems a little extreme using a live model.

What it looks like is not really all that important.

A reasonable piece of sex-ed for a 4 and a 6 year-old? Hygiene, personal space, and boundaries.

Skwim, is this really relevant to anything?

I've seen so many nekid folk in my life, it is the machinations of the human mind that make it unseemly.

Had I to do it all over again, at about age 8, hopefully before puberty, I'd sit perhaps both sons and daughters down together. Of course children normally do not come out as litters, so in most cases, you will be doing this one on one. Perhaps Dad could do the boys and Mom could do the girls?

If this is done with a Clinical attitude, it is better, because you are just trying to explain how a body works. Perhaps the manifestation of attraction might wait ??? Though, perhaps it would be easier for children to talk about before it actually happens ??? I would not want to somehow sexualize the gradual beginning of interest.

It is when religion is brought into this talk that things get insane.

I would think it would be very bizarre if a kid never saw their parents naked.

What? Me worry?
That's kinda what I was thinking. Drawing attention to their Dad's penis seems like overkill. Probably better at that early age than much older though.

And a huge improvement over the other extreme. Waiting until their wedding day to explain:eek::eek:

Generally, my opinion about sex education is negative.

Saw my dad naked plenty of times. My mother, never.

.
That's like me. My dad fairly often.
Mostly the swimming pool changing room or campground showers.
But I never saw my mom even topless until she was quite elderly. Sometimes I had to help her with stuff I'd have foisted off on my sisters if they had been around just then.

I saw both of my parents naked at times, coming from bathing or getting dressed or taking care of my mother when she was ill.

Never saw my Dad naked but my sister did. Apparently they used to take showers together. Saw a movie once, family out in the wilderness, one big tub, the whole family jump in together at bath time, like it was the most natural thing in the world. Kind of freaked me out then. Maybe the religious upbringing, makes it weird for me.
