Things are getting interesting (to say the least) in France and may be spreading to other European countries (according to a few Youtube videos). How do you see this playing out?

They like everything to look organic but it's all controlled. That's my gut instinct on this.

From what I can gather from talking on the net with people in France, what's happening is in some large part a response to government policies that economically harm working people.

Austerity measures.

I haven't paid attention honestly. I am skeptical of nearly everything political these days. That's why I said it was my gut instinct. I don't have facts right now.
The French are known for their willingness to protest at a 1 cent price hike on anything from petrol to G-d knows what else. Her people are prepared to fight.

Americans, on the other hand, refuse to protest anything short of an outrageous and tyrannical attempt to take away our rights to our soft drinks, our TVs, or our guns.

What benefit would French turmoil be to Russia?

Not sure but Russia must have seemed an easy fall guy/target to blame for the failures of French leadership in this instance but in response Macron seems to have acknowledged some failures to attempt to ease tensions.

As I can gather, it began with a tax hike to help fund a transition to renewable energy sources. Many of the lower classes -- tradesmen, &c, -- had been living paycheck to paycheck. They depended on their vehicles and found they could no longer make ends meet, so they took to the streets in protest. The protests rapidly spread, and so did their scope, as the protesters began bringing up many of the other cuts and injuries the government's increasing austerity measures had inflicted on their living standards..
