Your God is Not God

Do you agree or disagree with this statement: "Your god is not god. Your god (or gods) is, at best, an approach to thinking about god (or to thinking about the gods)." If you agree with the statement, why do you agree? If you do not agree, why not?

I agree with it, there is no god, so what you think about your god is only in your mind, it doesn't exist anywhere else.

I more disagree; what did you expect :). I try to steer believers to a more non-dual (God and creation are not-two) way of thinking about their God without denying their God.

I'm a hard polytheist so I take a very strict approach to the idea of gods being literal beings. :p

My answer is obvious, so instead I'll answer as if I were a Christian (and one who actually believes too...ahem...). I mean...I was Christened, it has to let me take some liberties sometimes, or what was the point?

I'm either a believer due to faith in the biblical messages or I've experienced personal revelation. Or both. Perhaps if personal revelation is involved I would believe I had insight into God. But otherwise the interpretation of the Bible I believe in, the particular denomination, the emphasis I place on different aspects and how I translate modern events against an ancient text MUST involve a level of abstraction from God himself. It's akin to reading every piece of documented history on Nelson Mandela. I can 'know' everything. Other scholars can agree with me. And yet, without directly meeting him (and probably even if I did) it would be hubris to think I 'knew' Mandela.

Isn't God more complex?

Since God speaks, and has His words in a book that we can read directly, yes I believe my God is God.

Is it the idea of God or the reality of the objective existence? God has an objective existence but can only be comprehended so far.

I disagree. Your god is still God, you just have ways of thinking about Him/Her/It.

Really? How do you avoid all decisions? You have no opinion on God's nature at all? Why not?
Yes.

I haven't picked a God so I don't know what nature he would have.

My opinion... I expect most of the Gods to be either misunderstood or non-existing, but it's not important.

Not enough information available.

My God is God, and my gods are gods... subjectively in many ways, and objectively in many ways. It is, however, important to understand the difference between the interior universe and the exterior universe.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Peter and Paul is God. So being that there is One God, that God is everyones' God, whether they choose to realize it or not.

Isn't the above a rephrasing of "what ever you say the tao is is not the tao." in that case I agree.

I dont think I would agree on varying levels, depends mostly on this word you are using,
What does this word god mean that you are using ?

I do not know if the statement, "Your god is not god", means I think my god is not god?

My god is not an approach to thinking about god. I think I disagree with the statement, "Your (my) god is not god".

I am like @Thief who says over and over again, "mind first". My god is The Mind that existed alone.
I do not know if there are other minds that existed elsewhere and I don't care.

I can't not see intelligence in everything. Yes, everything. LOL (I can't say what that means because that would be trolling) Where did it come from? I believe what the Bible says which is that it always existed. It was not created, because DAH, it would have needed a creator.
My God is real. God is what caused the universe. Might there be other universes? I suppose so. If there are, then there might be other gods and then the second statement would be true for me, ie, God is an approach to thinking about other gods.

I am a little bit Hindu as I understand them most, I think.
