Rape?

Titanic

Some part of me still thinks it crazy to believe in all of human history no one has ever raped cause they were lacking sex.

I know. What makes it even more disturbing is it could be the truth.

Namaste,

In some cases it is the truth. For example, soldiers in the Congo sometimes explain why they rape in the following manner:

"We have been in the bushes for a very long time and haven't seen a female in a very long time and when we do see one we get ..."

You can fill in the rest.

So, did the lacking of sex lead to certain men resorting to the horrendous moral crime of raping a female?

Yes. Yes it did, unfortunately.

Oh friend I have done my fair share of studying. It just seems no one else can believe me when I say lack of sex can lead to rape.

Namaste,

Well, you have a video showing soldiers that have actively taken part in raping females speaking about reasons why they rape which are coinciding with the claim put forward by you. These aren't psychologists or sociologists - they are soldiers that have committed these acts, and one of the reasons they raped was that they lacked in having sex with females because they were in the bushes for a very long time.

M.V.

EDIT: There will be people that will still not believe in the fact that some men sometimes will rape because they haven't had sex in a very long time, but the best thing to do would be to either show them that video above, or even just ignore them overall.

My point has been made. In some special cases lack of sex can lead to rape. I agree though some people will always deny and deny. Its best to ignore the ones who personally attack you.

Did you actually watch the entire video? They are superstituous, and believe that they have a "magic potion" that is activated by rape and helps them to victory. This is not lack of sex that drives them to rape, but - as one soldier DOES put it very clearly just a few seconds after the first quote that was offered here to RF -

Which is what I and others have been saying all along. I say your views are disturbing, Titanic, not because it's the truth, but because you are giving credibility to rape myth acceptance and sociopathic tendencies.

Namaste,

The lack of sex was one of the many reasons, as a minuscule reason as it might be, nonetheless. It was not a definitive factor as to why they engage in rape. I hope you don't think that I believe that the lack of sex is the number(#) one cause, do you?

M.V.

EDIT:
"We know it's not a good thing but what do you expect? We spend a long time in the bush and when we meet a woman and she will not accept us then we must take her by force."
"It's all about control. Before raping them, I made sure that the women were in good health…."
The interviewer asks: "But how is it different what he (the Hutus) does?"
"Well, those guys have been living in the bush for too long without women. They've just been living like that for so long that it's very pitiful when they encounter a woman."
Then the lady goes into the superstitious aspect of the matter as well. She makes a clear distinction between the superstitious reasons why these men rape from the initial reasons about them being in the bushes too long (by bushes I mean the forests). So, does the lack of sex (or being in the bushes too long) lead to rape in some minute occurrences, sure it does. But, is it the definitive, number one reason? Definitely not.

I think your video fans the flames of the OP's argument, which is predicated upon an assumption that a lack of sex could ever in the entirety of human existence be the cause of rape. That someone needs to have sex so badly that they just can't control themselves, and they go out and rape somebody because of that.

We've been through this throughout the entire thread, and as a survivor myself, I find the notion extremely offensive.

Whats a person to do if no one wants to have sex with them? Really think about it. What would you do? Hell my brother was that way and it just made him even more insane and violent.

The lack of sex is not the definitive cause for raping someone. But, it could be a factor, especially in the situation of one of the Congolese soldiers who clearly states that some of the men raped because they were in the bushes for too long. And, I am not fanning the flames of the OP's argument. I am just saying that it could be one of the factors, even if that specific factor isn't definitive.

Forgive me, for I did not know that you were in such a horrid experience. Please accept my deepest condolences. But, please take the time to understand that this isn't a notion of mine. In one or two cases of rape in the Congo, a soldier stated that he raped because he hadn't seen a female in a very long time and when she denied his advances he overpowered her and "controlled" the situation to acquire his "entitlement".

Your brother's lack of sex was not the reason he became more insane and violent. People who are not sociopathic go and masturbate if they are unable to find a willing partner. Rape does not happen because of a lack of sex. Period. This is a rape fantasy, T.

Now stop this nonsense, because it's getting ridiculous.

Namaste,

To be honest, many Pandits/Rishis/Priests/Pujaris in India have been celibate for so long that they have forgot what love making is like....but they never became insane or violent as a result of that celibacy. The video shows an outlier in such a situation. It probably varies upon culture and society.

Okay I accept defeat. I just wish someone could have gotten through to my brother.

I have argued throughout the entire thread that libido is only ancillary, but never a primary motivating factor. I stand by that argument, too. People get their jollies off for all sorts of reasons, but people can also get turned on by the idea of another person being dehumanized.

But there is a major distinction between rape and sex, and it's respect for informed consent. Not getting too horny. Not having the wrong signals sent to the aggressor. Not being victimized by an ambitious person going after status or money. No...the distinction is what priority does informed consent have to the aggressor for a persons sexual bodily security and autonomy.

Forgive me, for I did not know that you were in such a horrid experience. Please accept my deepest condolences.

No problem.

But, please take the time to understand that this isn't a notion of mine. M.V.

Yes. His entitlement to have her body. That's not an out of control libido. That's entitlement mixed with a dehumanization and objectification of the female.

Listen, it's very easy to ignore these distinctions because we do live in a culture that sexualizes and glosses over the crime of rape. I'm requesting that you take a step back and look at the whole picture of places like the Congo if you wish to make that region a focal point of the debate for now.
