Another addition:

I have jumped into strength training recently. I never did this before because I was worried about "bulking up" too much and having Popeye arms....which are weird on tiny women.

I can do 50 pushups now, and I haven't bulked up like I thought I would, although my arms are taking shape differently than they have in the past. The wild thing is that my caloric intake is much higher now, and in spite of my experience of going through eating disorders, I'm counting my calories daily again, but with a different mindset - I want to make sure I'm eating to SUPPORT my strength training and that I don't hurt myself.

Much different mindset. MUCH different mindset.

9. Fall is my favorite season with Spring a close second.
10. I play WoW and Sims and Spore. I like progressing character games ;)
11. I find pretzels to be addictive.

When I put myself on a strength program. I keep to a key element: using my own body weight in a diverse set of exercises. it keeps a long term strength, proportional, I would call it 'real strength' perhaps, one that doesn't involve pumping iron as it were.
something I've picked up in the Israeli army. its pretty Spartan, but it works.

During the months before one of my last travels to Israel, I had plenty of time on my hands. I did a complete workout on the mat, which covered the core muscles, plenty of pull ups, and a regular run using the interval method (speed work), all this was a single program. the instructor who built the program with me was surprised that I asked to exclude weight lifting and machines from my program, especially when aiming to build my strength, however as we first ran my program and he saw me exercise and run, he had a wild smile on his face and said that I am in amazing shape.

in addition I did plenty of swimming, yoga, pilates, stretching and a total stretch class.

It's nice to be able to eat without feeling guilty, isn't it?

Very much so! I'm meticulous about making sure I have the right cocktail of nutrients that does a body good. I'm not concerned at all about the number on the scale as much as I am about my ability to run, to grip, to lift/pull/push, to stretch, play with the space around me, and to accelerate and play with speed.

I'm set to be in better shape now closing in on 40 than I was when I was half my age. And I love having that goal and knowing just how attainable it is. :)

My strength training comes in the form of all the various push ups one can do (it's like there's over a thousand different ways to push yourself off the floor, lol), the various squats, and a few hundred different core exercises in addition to running and my yoga program.

we sound very like minded in this regard. I love playing with the diversity of push ups, and there are so many options and goals to fool around with. and I love to do squats, I do 'prison squats' :D
one good thing I like about yoga is that it challenges you to expend your work out. for example, it pushed me to try pilates. the fact that you work so many groups of muscle in yoga is one of my favourite things about it.

:highfive: for yoga!

I have a goal of doing handstand pushups at some point, like gymnasts do, and once I get there I want to challenge you to an armwrestling match just for fun.

Loser has to dress like a Catholic schoolgirl for a day.
