How many here, want there to be something supernatural?

It is clear there are a great number unconvinced of the supernatural, but even among those unconvinced, how many secretly or even openly hope there is such a thing?

I suppose at the end of the day, I hope for such a thing, but to this day I am not sure why I would hope for such a thing.

Any thoughts?

I only hope for more supernatural things so the thought of miracles, God, or mysterious things become less of a doubt in people's mind.

Discounting that the something supernatural was also something horrible, I think it would be pretty exciting and amazing if such things existed. In fact, I went through a period of seeking out such things - and it was this search that led me to the inevitable rational conclusion that such things do not exist. However, I do have an empathetic insight into why so many people want such things to exist so badly, that they convince themselves that such things do exist.

I am just taking a guess here, but I think most atheist would be inclined to share your view here.
I am not aware of many people I have met that flat out don't want there to be anything like that.

Then again, there are many jokesters that will tell you "sure I want there to be a two headed Angelina, with four boobs and so forth..."

All in all I expect your reply to be common, but we shall see :D

I'm just the opposite. The idea of the laws of nature being violated freaks me right out.

Now, I do believe in several things commonly considered "supernatural," but that's just stuff we don't understand yet.

It may also depend on what a person calls supernatural and if it's a personal experience or one for the masses.

Alright I admit it, I do. But it would depend. I don't think I'd want revoltinglist haunting me 24/7 with his big scythe while I'm in the shower or on the internet.

Assuming I'd have some control over whom & when I haunt, I'd respect your privacy....depending upon how hot you are, of course.
Please note though, I don't do scythes....primarily shovels & hoes, with the occasional machete.

It would be nice to have real magical powers but the world wouldn't be a better place if such powers existance because they'd just become another weapon to be used in the quest for domination.

Of course, but then I remember that as soon as I would begin to decipher any kind of "supernatural" thing, such as magic or a fantasy creature, it would collapse back into scientific understanding.

"Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science!"

Another great point of view. That does make sense on one level, about being scared.
What is it about the laws breaking that scare you specifically?

Well, just that you couldn't count on anything. Some superbeing could come along and invert gravity for a giggle.

Ooh I like this.

What a great idea for a topic. "if we had true powers to change the world for the better, would we do it?"

Are you absolutely convinced about that? Just curious...
