Do you think big words make you smart?

I think big words usually have combinations of definitions of other more accurate to individual amounts definitions. I think the combination makes disagreeing less done because of the attachment of agreeable information. I think that can cause communication problems.
I think there is a big word test called the s.a.t's that from the information i have few get the definitions correct after 12 years of study of the language. I think some people feel stupid because they do not have the ability to use big words and i think people think they are smart because they use big words. I think some people make there own definition of big words from interaction instead of a dictionary definition that causes deviation from one definition that causes multiple values in a definition area. I think people might do that because of fear of being considered stupid.
I think putting multiple defintions into one word puts more than one value into usage to explain information by having different words that can explain the information but have different values. I think the usage of the big word instead of the two or more small words can cause the disaster of the small words value in the thought process because the small definitions information becomes stored at a different level of the brain.
I think some people might not consider this a problem because they do not notice the effect that not accurate information can have on the ability of the brain to process information to make decisions.

Being able to successfully communicate your ideas makes you smart. If you use words no one else understands then you haven't communicated anything relevant.

Every word is "big" to an infant.

Therefore, perhaps on those occasions when it is unnecessary to dumb-down our language to accommodate the demanding needs of our less well educated friends, we should concern ourselves -- not with the size of our words -- but with how appropriately we use the words we each know well enough to use appropriately.

As for the way in which others use words, we have little enough control over their choices. Thus, too much of an attempt to control the preferences of our brothers and sisters must all but necessarily end in our own frustration.

Last: Infancy, senility, and idiocy -- all three are intimately associated with babble. But of the three, idiocy has a way of sounding sensible, such as when some politicians, preachers, and pundits speak.

Unless of course the ideas being communicated are nothing but a big pile of bull ****.

It takes much more than merely using small words to successfully communicate an idea.

Take the OP for example.
As far as communicating an idea goes, it is a fail.
Even though it does use really small words.

I think i did not talk about dumbing down language with small words i think i talked about dumbing down language with big words. I think the amount of topics that a word includes "dumbs down the definition". I think words should only be stating one topic.

Your core sense of how to use words seems to me the antithesis of their typical or frequent use in poetry, literature, and some other arts -- where their usage tend towards rich, multiple meanings. Yet, your sense of their proper usage equally seems the very soul of how they are used in science, formal philosophy, and engineering -- where words are forced into roles as play-less and narrow as Baptist virgins on their wedding nights. Would you demand we were all like scientists and engineers, then? Is your vision for all of us to be Spock? Are any of us allowed some fun in your perfect world?

Jargon fills an important role, especially in medical, legal, and academic fields. Why use five to ten words to describe a concept when you only need to use one?

Know what's more impressive than using big words though? Being able to explain them clearly, succinctly, and accurately when needed to.
I think you bring a very important subject. I think if there are two definitions to one value(regular-poop,medical-stool) that using the word stool when most people who talk about poop to the doctor say poop and not stool that the doctors might be submitting to the values of medical field. I think if the medical student does not use the words they fail to pass. I think new "big" words are often used and must be used and i think those words could include more information that does not make sense to the person but they submit to others processes in there own mind. I think the new words might have the definition cancer that is a tumor. I think by seperating the word tumor from cancer that people might start to think that cancer is a different topic and finding similarities between tumors to find more information about solving the problems of cancer might become more difficult to find. I think if the medical student is grilled over years of "education" that they use the word cancer then i think they might start to lose the ability to find information about there information about the tumor cancer before there "education" that puts there information farther from grasp and if more information is gained that relates to the tumor cancer and is put into only the cancer definition then i think gaining more information about tumors might not happen and if they realize this then i think the process will be more difficult.
I think washing a person of there definitions and inplanting ones own demishes the persons capability to use the information they have and i think that is the reason. I think if a person tries to continue to use there own language in the military that they will be extracted because they do not comply with orders. I think the people who do not comply are easy to find. I think frats, science, medical, clicks, military, law, cops, and Ebonics all use language to check if people are submitting to the will of others.

I always find it hilarious that the Nation of Islam brothas use big words to impress me while selling me bean pies and a "final call" newspaper. I do see a lot of people knowing big words but not able to properly conjugate a coherent sentence using them.

I think one word that is annoying is arachnophobia that to me means fear of spiders. I think there is not any need to call large fear of spiders arachnophobia. I think they are trying to sell a idea that they are superior to deal with what to do about ones own fear.

There is a lot more to successfully communicating than merely using small words.
Especially when communicating with the written word.
Punctuation really helps, as do paragraphs.

Have you ever stopped to think that perhaps the reason so many words have multiple definitions is because of people who refuse to learn bigger words?

Well arachnophobia is a psychological term of someone who has an "irrational fear" of an arachnid and for professionals diagnosing potential patients, it is appropriate. But for average folk people should just say I am afraid of spiders

I guess we could call it SpideyEeek for those who are linguistically challenged. Considering the root words in arachnophobia, it would seem to be a perfectly acceptable term. I am unsure why anyone, in their right mind, would have any difficulties whatsoever with the term.

That said, I can't help but wonder, "Does it really matter if one's dialogue is not understood by those with double-digit intelligence quotients?"

In all honesty, unless one makes a PowerPoint slide-show, complete with animated action figures, will said human animals actually understand much of anything? It may also be helpful to hand out colouring books for a followup homework assignment to drill points home. I'm just saying... :sorry1:

I think that evane knows more about manipulation,
than language.

I think that he should not be taken seriously.

I think i called him on this a few threads back.

I think i am finished here and i think you should be too.

I think that people might refuse to learn words and instead use the same word. I think having one definition words is important to the processing of the mind. I think overlaping prior definitions demisishs ability and can cause problems.
example, "that was dope" I think they could have said,"that was enjoyable" I think the word dope is used by some because others want to get the definitions of dope and enjoyment closer, so they can sell there product. I think dope might mean enjoyable and with people my age. I think there are many of those problems.
