Japan, Hawaii, and N. Cal.

Looks like Hawaii won't suffer too badly.

Japan has been seriously slammed though. We are praying for people there.

I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of this kind of devastation. When you hear how many regions are overdue for a major earthquake or volcanic eruption or tsunami, it's frightening. Just search for 'overdue [natural disaster of your choice here]'. We are living in dangerous times.

And yet people continue building and developing like there's no tomorrow, on more unstable ground and in riskier locations.

I hope that the people do not have to suffer too much.

I'm just waiting for the first fundy preacher to declare it's an act from on high for Japan's godless ways, or that it's part of the approaching end times. Anyone want to lay odds on who that first preacher will be?

I keep wondering if the long-anticipated "Big One" will hit San Fransisco.
The Big One's supposed to be on the Southern end of the San Andreas fault....which is about 100 miles from where I'm at. )(

My thought and prayers to Japan. I watched the tsunami last night swallow entire villages in the Sendai region...absolutely horrific.

I know that if I am horrified just watching it on the news, that it is a million times worse for those who are experiencing it and those who have families in those places.

Sure, the actual number of earthquakes might not be increasing or decreasing. But the chances of devastation are.

Found this on the website you linked to, thanks: FAQs - Earthquake Myths

I admit I could have done a better job wording myself. But since people are moving further into at-risk areas and the populations in those areas are rising, it's practically guaranteed that we'll be seeing a lot more devastation, to humans at least.

i agree
we are constantly learning...however
it's just a reminder of the unmeasurable amount of power we are subjected to...

i'm glad there isn't an earthquake season...

If there was, we could plan around them somewhat.

It's also a reminder of how small and insignificant humans can be in the grand scheme of things.

Regarding my eariler post (#7)

While not from a fundy preacher the following heartwarming explanation comes from a source equally out of touch: AiG
"In the face of such destruction, suffering, and death, many people question how a good and loving God could allow such evil to happen. However, this is just another painful reminder of how the curse of sin has affected our world."
