Quoted from Revelation 2:23, "I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds."
What exactly does this passage mean and why did Jesus say this?
It's very obvious to me that God and Jesus are jealous and vengful individuals. If you do not obide by his word, they will strike you dead, amybe even torture and rape you before hand.
What a nice guy.....
What I don't understand is if there is a hell, and someone breaks your "rules" then why kill them? Are they not going to hell anyways....?I agree... you always hear people talking about how much of a Savior Jesus was yet... he will go off and kill children? I mean... huh? Isn't that evil? Or is it just me?

That doesn't make sense to me, I thought Jesus was about forgiveness and redemption? Seems he should let them live to redeem themselves at least, then if they do not straight to hell they go....Good point indeed... Maybe they are only trying to rush the suffering? Maybe they think they should be in Hell right then and there, no exceptions? lol I have no idea...

Me either, which is why I chalk it up to wild stories that men used to first and foremost explain the unknow and death, and then later to control the masses....I know... doesn't make much sense to me either. Most of the Bible doesn't make sense though. It'll say one thing and then later say the complete opposite. I just don't understand.
It isn't Jesus that said that it is Alpha and Omega.Quoted from Revelation 2:23, "I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds."

Yes. The Book of Revelation is certainly the standout of the canon.
I still wonder why it was even included. Maybe the Church fathers wanted a real scare the hell out of 'em book given the nature of the rest of the New Testament. Or scare the hell into 'em, however you look at it.
Personally I think any Christian religion that dropped that book from it's canon would find itself entirely more reasonable.

Actually, many church fathers did not want it in the cannon. It was accepted only because it was already being used too widely in Christian worship.

God portrayed in the OT and Jesus as shown in the NT are completely different personalities.
