i'm relatively new to this forum, so what shall I do if I get a 'Friendship request' in my message box from someone wanting to be my pal IF their screen name indicates they're nonchristian?
Don't get me wrong, I'm flattered, but the Bible tells us we're not supposed to hang with nonchristians, so I'm in a dilemma and wondering what I should do?

Where does it say in the Bible that you cannot have non-Christian friends? Is this your view of what Jesus taught?

I'd add them as friends. We are supposed to love our neighbors and not just our brothers and sisters in Jesus. I am not trying to criticize you, it is your decision- follow your own beliefs.

You realize that the Pharisees got on Jesus about hanging around with tax collectors, don't you? Jesus also got in trouble for helping out lepers. We are told to emulate Jesus.

If you have a system of beliefs that causes you to not be friends with someone, merely because of a difference of opinion, Than is your belief system really worth it?

Even though I find nonchristians to be boring people I'm still polite and hospitable to to them, but when it comes to actually wanting them as friends, no way ho-zay!
Jesus said "You're my friends if you follow me"-John 15:14, and likewise I too only want friends who follow him..

It goes deeper than that; for example suppose I accept a friendship request from a Satanist, he/she can then go round telling people "I'm friends with a Christian, see they don't think we're such bad people after all!"

Thanks for the quotes. So, I am still curious. Do you believe that Jesus would have told you not to befriend non-believers? Can you think of no quotes from the NT that support walking that extra mile with those who might not believe? What does it mean to "love" your enemies if you cannot even associate with them?

I once let a prostitute have my bed when she knocked my door at 4 a.m. after a client beat her up, but regarding her as a 'friend' would be going a step too far.. (I had the couch)
As for nonchristians, Jesus was quite clear that we can put the gospel message to them, but if they persistently reject it, we should walk off rather than waste any more time casting our pearls -
"If any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them" (Mark 6:11)
"The Jews argued with him, so Paul said 'I'm clear of my responsibility' and left" (Acts 18:6-7)

I am not trying to be offensive, but if you don't want to "associate" with non-Christians, then why have you joined a multi-religions board. There are very many all Christian forums, I know, I belong to several.

I find this very sad. :yes: However, if you really don't want to hang out with non christians, then don't accept their friendship request. It's really quite simple and there is no need to create a thread about it to make it even more critical and divisive.
