The two most important days in your life, are the day you are born and the day you figure out why. ~ Mark Twain

"The clouds above us join and separate, The breeze in the courtyard leaves and returns. Life is like that, so why not relax? Who can stop us from celebrating?" - Lu Yu

"Those who know that they do not know
Gain wisdom.
Those who pretend they know
Remain ignorant.

Those who acknowledge their weakness
Become strong.
Those who flaunt their power
Will lose it.

Wisdom and power
Follow truth above all.
For truth is the way of Tao." - Daodejing ch. 71

Because I cannot sleep
I make music at night.
I am troubled by the one
whose face has the color of spring flowers.
I have neither sleep nor patience,
neither a good reputation nor disgrace.
A thousand robes of wisdom are gone.
All my good manners have moved a thousand miles away.
The heart and the mind are left angry with each other.
The stars and the moon are envious of each other.
Because of this alienation the physical universe
is getting tighter and tighter.
The moon says, 'How long will I remain
suspended without a sun?'
Without Love's jewel inside of me,
let the bazaar of my existence be destroyed stone by stone.
O Love, You who have been called by a thousand names,
You who know how to pour the wine
into the chalice of the body,
You who give culture to a thousand cultures,
You who are faceless but have a thousand faces,
O Love, You who shape the faces
of Turks, Europeans, and Zanzibaris,
give me a glass from Your bottle,
or a handful of being from Your Branch.
Remove the cork once more.
Then we'll see a thousand chiefs prostrate themselves,
and a circle of ecstatic troubadours will play.
Then the addict will be freed of craving.
and will be resurrected,
and stand in awe till Judgment Day.

"I believe in my own strength, and nothing else" - Viking answer to Franks asking what he believed(had he converted, he would've lived).

A coward believes he will ever live
If he keeps him safe from strife
But old age
leaves him not long in peace
Though spears may spare his life. - The Havamal.

"I take the whole universe as my house and my own room as my clothing. Get out of my trousers!" - Liu Ling, a Taoist sage upon receiving important guests in the nude.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you," - Jesus, Matthew 5:33-34

I happen to think...that (that passage) is a good way to convince people to stay in toxic, abusive relationships. :/

It's more "You're going to die anyway", but the other implication is that yes, the person would forever feel shame for his cowardice.

It's not length of life, but depth of life, that matters.

If you meet life and death both "head on."

All of us here will die, but...
