What do you mean by victory here?
cardero said:Why The Bible God has human qualities?
Because that is the way humans created Him.
that's kinda what I was going to say. When describing something unknown, one can only use 'known' things to compare it to. The limited knowledge of the material world, and limited vocabulary would have made it very difficult to explain abstract ideas.sojourner said:Because applying anthropomorphic qualities to God was the best way ancient humans could understand and express God.

I understand what you are saying, but wasn't higher education, and knowledge accessible only to a limited few? How would one describe God to the 'uneducated' majority?angellous_evangellous said:This grossly overgeneralized statement may depend on what culture you are talking about. The Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Babylonians, and Egyptians were extremely more advanced than most people think - both in language and their knowledge of the material world. Interesting that the Indians were much less civilized (IMO) and had a more adequate langauge to express the transendental - perhaps the Chinese follow closely behind.
We should not judge the world by the Dark Ages of the West. It's a mistake that I see too often.
We're not so much advanced from the ancient Greeks and Chinese that we can put them in that kind of box.

because the Torah is written in the language of men.
ProfLogic said:Why do so many believe in these scriptures if it was written by men for men. I always say if you really want one to serve you, you do it yourself not through the manipulation of others. This is one more thing that the bible god had shown me, it can not do anything without humanity. In the creation it was lonely but it decided to creat living things which later it killed; except for as usual a selected group of people and 2 pairs of animals. This is illogical in my opinion. That is why the bible god is purely man's creation thus it has qualities of a man. The purpose is to easily manipulate the new followers and I see this in today's religions.

vbmenu_register("postmenu_473182", true); angellous_evangellous writes: IMO, I can't see how a God that is concerned with humanity cannot be expressed in some kind of human metaphor. God does what humans can't, so many religions express God as one who cares (a human trait) about humans and acts (human action) on the behalf of humanity.
