Whither Free Market?

What we have is cronyism, the dominance of lobbyists, the eye-wateringly enormous corporate welfare bill, price-fixing scandals, planetary scale tax avoidance and the crushing of small to medium business.

Where is the room for the free market in this socialism for the elite?

Is this what you defend when you claim to be a capitalist?

Your post seems a skosh antagonistic, which isn't what we envisioned as appropriate for this forum.
Do you identify as a capitalist? It's a purple forum, you know.
Anyway, I oppose crony capitalism & other forms of corruption.

The free market and capitalism has been being strangled for decades. It's barely perceptible these days.

No. Not at all.

What? Me worry?

Sounds like you may be getting your perceptions from bad made-for-tv movies. There is plenty of old-tmey Capitalism alive and well out here in the trenches.

I believe that entrepreneurs and traders have a place in the grand scheme. I think the potential to choose one service over another can be a liberating and beneficial feature of a market. I think that if you can make money without standing on anyone's head to do so, go wild. Is that capitalist enough?

God, I wish.

I don't say whether you are or aren't. My lengthy discussions about the new rules
here have revealed that in order to post in a restricted forum (especially purple),
one should identify by the label of the forum. The sticky threads don't explicitly
say this, but it's what I understand from Tarheeler.
Example:
I believe in equality between males & females, & therefore meet the definition
of "feminist". But I don't adopt the label, which is the title of the forum.
Thus, I do not & should not post there.

I notice that you regularly & recently post in the Socialist Only forum, so I presume
that you identify as such. If you also consider yourself a capitalist, then you might
consider elaborating on how you reconcile the two seemingly opposing schools of
thought.

Note: Do not infer from the above that you aren't welcome here.

OK. I don't call myself a capitalist*. I want to know what people who do use that label think about the state of modern capitalism without it descending into a left-right squabble where people feel they need to defend one of two main American political parties. That's why the thread is here.

If this is inappropriate, I apologise.

*I've used the word socialist to describe my outlook for a long time. But it's just a word. The people defending people use it, and I'm drawn to social justice, but I'm under no illusions; what most socialists call socialism has failed miserably.

Things are complicated, eh.
I don't recall how this place became purple, but blue would allow
more questions like yours from non-capitalists. Oh, well...I don't
make the rules. Hell, I'm still trying to figure them out. They
could'a done a better job with clarity. Hear that, staff!?
