What is your job?

I was just curious and want to know what profession people on RF do.

I am (soon to be not) an inventory management specialist. I analyze data until my eyes cross and provide information to clients on how to lower their impact on too much or too little inventory. And then I create tools for others to use so they can manage their inventory more effectively.

So what do YOU do?

Former contract & consulting engineer (aerospace, truck brake control systems, heavy machinery, surgical tools, misc).
Current commercial landlord & investor.
Future manufacturing museum proprietor <--- Don't know if this one will survive. Could be a big failure.

I'm a transportation engineer.

I do things like road network planning, traffic operations analysis, and roadway design.

Most of the work I do is a lot like accounting, only without the thrill of dealing with money and with more standing in the cold while trucks whizz by.

And yes, you can blame me for all the red lights on your way to work if it makes you feel better.

I am a Journalism student, a personal assistant to a real estate agent, both a writer and Ads Manager for the The Corsair (My school's paper) and Citizen's Messenger (a local paper) and I'm trying to get on another paper at the moment. Also, I publish a free e-zine (Something Magazine). Also, I play music shows from time to time but I consider it more a hobby. Also, I am looking for another job. =D

Revolting- What kind of museum in your future?
It will exhibit anything to do with manufacturing, primarily from 1800 to 1920 or so:
Some areas of interest:
Motive power (steam, hydro, human, beast, fossil fuels, Stirling)
Industrial design (appearance, human factors, engineering)
Technology (engineering, materials)
Marketing/sales (advertising, salesman's samples, prototypes)
Legal (patent models, influences on design)
Artifacts include all types of internal & external combustion engines, machine tools, agricultural machines, production machinery, hand tools, vehicles, catalogs, books, ephemera.
Big hurdles: developing interpretive info & displays, extensive internet presence, developing relationship with university students doing research & conservation projects.

I'm a HVAC technician or, as the UA classifies it, a Journeyman Mechanical Equipment Service Specialist.
I work primarily on boilers, chillers, and hydronic systems now days and leave the residential stuff to the young guys.

Once I graduate (December of 2011 if all goes well), I hope to move to something closer to political analyst or perhaps even law clerk.

At least until I decide what I want to be when I grow up. :D

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I'm a banker. I love it. I specialize in commercial and consumer loans, annuities and other fixed rate investments, and home equity products.

Sheeze, it sounds so boring when I write it out, but it's the furthest thing from boring. I get to meet with people all day every day, from every walk of life, and help them make some of the most important financial decisions of their lives. I love it because each situation is different and often requires a lot of creativity and customized solutions to meet my clients' goals.

I am very honored when they allow me access into their lives.

I'm currently working as a cook while I look for physics or math related employment. I figure I'd better start using my degree for something.

I'm a civil engineer, but am currently in the academy of nursing to become, well, a nurse. CE is a cool field of work, but it's not enough to satisfy me. I needed more. So I'm on my way to get the highest degree there is nursing (master) and will probably specialize in Critical Care.

I do tuns of volunteer work, but that's too much to get into now.

Communications Officer for a Sheriff's Office here.

Sometimes I like my job. I get to help people and feel useful.

Sometimes, though, I answer the phone at 6 am and hear a woman crying hysterically because her husband she's woken up beside for 50+ years is laying dead in the bed next to her.

Sometimes I don't like my job.

Tis straying a little from the OP, but I'm curious what perspective you've gleaned from real estate (sales, I presume).
Being a broker & investor sure altered my view of politics & events....& often makes my language coarser.

Interesting range of jobs on here. So do you post while you are at work?
Of course! It's one of the luxuries of being self-unemployed. Although....lately, I feel unemployed.

I don't post at work, for two reasons:

1. Our computer system has a firewall and security system that doesn't allow much web surfing, and which tracks every site we visit.

2. But mostly - I don't have the time. I am busy every minute of every day - and I like it that way. If you've got a lot of time to surf the net at work, I got news for you - your job may be more expendable than you think.

I tried posting at work but I kept getting dishwater and chicken salad in the keyboard.

Hey, you should give finding the internet port on a boiler a try. I think I found it inside the firebox, but I don't have a cable rated for 2000 degrees.
