Magic is the ability to increase and utilize one's free will.

If I moved from a repressive regime to a liberal one I'd increase ability to increase and utilize my free will.
If I were depressed or neurotic and received therapy, I'd increase ability to increase and utilize my free will.
If I were released from prison, I'd increase ability to increase and utilize my free will.

I wouldn't consider any of these magic.
Magic is more like effect without discernible mechanism.

Turning a pile of lumber into a doghouse is change in conformance with one's will, but I wouldn't call it magic.

Well, it doesn't work for me as someone who rejects free will being a thing.

Pretending that isn't the case for a moment, I agree with Valjean's criticism of it. Too broad. To me, a critical part of a good definition of spellcraft (pardon, "magic" to most) is something about the methods being occult/esoteric in nature.
