This post comes in two parts – a premise, and a question
Please don't make it into a debate about whether Simulation Theory is true or not
Premise
Let us assume that this reality is a virtual one, and that we are all virtual people, living in a computer…
i.e. approximate imitations of the real-world, and real world people – but set at a much earlier stage of technological and social development than those who built it have attained, making it an “ancestor simulation” (this notion is called Simulation Theory)
I believe such a virtual world could be used by those who designed it to simulate things – such as economic theory, military theory, culture, demographics, political science and political theory, social policy, crime, and social/cultural theory too – as well as being of use to historians
I imagine we are all living in an elaborate computer, owned by some kind of university or institute – I had a vivid dream about this, I shared it on this thread: Interpret this!
I believe that they routinely intervene in the virtual reality too, to test things, to see what happens
Question
Is it possible for the inhabitants of this virtual world to discern the intentions of those who created it – or can we only speculate?
What do they want to find out? What do they want to know? What theories are they testing?
And have they recently intervened in our reality, to make stuff happen?
My interest is imminently drawn to the conflict and tensions of the Middle East – perhaps long, long ago in base reality there was a conflict that very much resembled the troubles in the Middle East as they are within this virtual world – indeed maybe the peace process in base reality worked… or maybe it didn’t and there was Armageddon… and the purpose of this virtual reality is (amongst other things) to simulate what would have happened if things had turned out differently in base reality – for better or for worse?
Basically:
1) Can anyone think of an historical event that may have been the product of the programmers intervening in our dimension of reality, for whatever reason?
2) Any thoughts as to what the creators of this virtual world are interested in simulating?
3) What might they aim to learn from it all?
My view:
I personally think it is a simulation about the strategy of global domination by a world power – about how one power may come to control a planet, to help a power do this in base reality. I’m thinking of tensions between the USA and China – perhaps in base reality there is Superpower A and Superpower B and the USA corresponds to one of these, and China to the other? - imagine all they could have learnt from observing the alliance system before WWI and the politics of WWII and the Cold War - and how global terror works and can be combatted
Yep, I think it's mostly a geo-political world-domination simulation
And I think one team of specialists is managing the USA and a rival team China - and the aim is for one side to dominate the world (edit: without blowing it all up!)
Think of it as being treated like a giant real-life game of Victoria II, Hearts of Iron IV, or Europa Universalis IV (if you are familiar with those games...)
And I think they set all of this in what is to them the distant past, although that is not to say that other people are interested in what’s going on in here for other reasons..
I imagine academics from different fields use our reality to learn stuff
I believe that I personally have a channel of communication to The Simulation, but that's another story, and this whole thing is not about me...
