How do you know that you are going to live in everlasting life?

Not immortal, but infinitely existing. It has always existed infinitely and will always exist infinitely. In quality it's the same as God, in quantity, it is infinitessimally small. But nevertheless, it is of the same quality as God, hence the infinite existence. It's a concept some of us subscribe to called "inconceivable one-ness and difference". The human mind can't comprehend how we can be the same yet different from God.

Yes, this is how I relate to the use of the word "Soul".

I define the soul as a conglomeration of my, life experiences, beliefs.

My soul IS my mind, the essence of "me".

It dies with me except for those little tidbits I manage to ingrain in those who shared my life.

Perhaps our flesh is not immortal but for us to have always existed our souls must be immortal. Part of us must be immortal if we exist infinitely without ceasing to exist. I think the human mind can comprehend how we can be the same yet different from God. We just have to look at ourselves and know we are in the image of God. Our form, our mind can conceive of the similarities and differences by just knowing what we, ourselves, are.

That's beautiful because it is so sad that we don't get to live on but through others then we fade away. I like your idea of the soul best because it has a definite ending. It's the way life should be.

To me, immortal means having had an origin but no end. So that may just be a matter of definitions and semantics. No problem there.

This explains the inconceivable one-ness and difference philosphy: Achintya Bheda Abheda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jiva is a living being, not in a material body, but the true being that exists.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13

    Nope.

Ancient man confused a conscious thought and dreams with a desire for a afterlife and created the concept of a soul.

To me "soul" is mythological in nature

You trust in a book to give you everlasting life? If you have a soul don't you already have everlasting life? Is Jesus keeping you from having everlasting life? If Jesus is giving you everlasting life then isn't he the one that also keeps everlasting life away from you? How could you trust in a Tyrant?

People in hell, don't they also have everlasting life? They still exist don't they? Why would you imagine people going to hell anyways? If I don't receive Christ I'll go to hell?

What is a soul? Where is it located, and why can't it be proven to exist if it is so important?

Me thinks that if twenty people answered those three questions, they would give twenty different answers.

The "soul" AKA "consciousness" is emergent there is nothing pre-existing about it. We have no memories of waiting on the sidelines waiting for our turn to get born with some pre-existing soul. We are just born and that is it. As for its locality, well there isnt one. Descartes thought he was on the right track with a theory it was located in the pineal gland, but these days scientists are no closer than they ever were.

This sounds like word salad to me. Do you have any evidence for the truth of this scheme?

There is no evidence of a soul. This is all as speculative as 'how long is a unicorn's horn?'

There's no evidence for a unicorn so why talk about the horn?
There's no evidence for a soul so why talk about its development?

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I wasn't aware I had to prove the basis for my beliefs or faith. Read the part of my post that says "To me".

It's a little thing humans do... it's called "conversation".

To me the soul escapes the body and wreaks havoc after a million years of being trapped in the arse of Beelzebub.

^^ Just as valid as whatever you say about the soul

Wouldn't it be worth talking about the existence of the soul before talking about its properties. And also some evidence for those properties (be it scriptural or otherwise) would be nice. It may be a conversation but its a useless one. That's my view.

Why are you participating in this, then? Just to rag on someone's beliefs?
