And house sparrows mated with Mediterranean “Spanish” sparrows somewhere on an Italian farm. Their descendants represent a brand new species, the Italian sparrow.

That seems an unwarranted optimistic renaming of the Holocene Extinction.

I'd say the rate of human induced extinction considerably exceeds human assisted speciation.
