For those of you paying attention to that sort of thing, you may have seen that a few weeks ago the U.S. state of Virginia passed legislation prohibiting the use of microchip technology being used in humans for fears of it becoming the so called 'mark of the beast' as is foretold in the book of Revelations.

Read about it here: Virginia delegates pass bill banning chip implants as ‘mark of the beast’ | Raw Story

They do bring up privacy concerns as one of the reasons, which I agree is a concern, but, to quote Virginia state Delegate Mark Cole, "My understanding -- I'm not a theologian -- but there's a prophecy in the Bible that says you'll have to receive a mark, or you can neither buy nor sell things in end times."

So, to my question, which is mainly to believers: If you believe in so-called 'end time prophecies' and the mark of the beast, as Mark Cole and so many others do, why would you not embrace it as a sign that your god is returning to lift you up to heaven? Why the fear? Why ban what you believe to be an integral part of the prophesied return of your savior?

    This confuses me. Please explain.

It's a natural reaction to try to oppose evil.

    Hey, lookie there, a responder.

But in this case, that evil is absolutely necessary for your salvation, is it not?

No, my salvation has been settled. However you have a point that Christians should look forward to the end times and when Jesus returns. Jesus told us to pray "thy kingdom come". However the end times is so horrible and there are a wide array of beliefs out there even amongst Christians that this is what we get.

I think what is happening is the interpretation of when the rapture will occur. In Relevation 14:9-10 it says that whosoever receives the mark of the beast will burn. That tells people that they will go to hell. So the natural tendency is to try to resist it, and the biggest problem we don't know what it is yet. Some believe that the rapture will occur before this time, so they don't have to worry about it, some think the rapture will be post-tribulaiton so they worry about it.

hi :) lookie here another respond from a Muslim :D

evil does his work anyway. if prophecies say that there would be a terrible war that would cause lives of a billion, for instance, it should not be started and done by people who love God. it should be done by evil. so to speak, it is unacceptable for people to evil stuff just to make prophecies occur and to be close to God. this actually might be another work of satan if you ask me

Perhaps 'salvation' is the wrong word. The rapture would be better. The mark of the beast is one of the preconditions of the rapture.

So you say we don't know. If they do develop the chip technology to a point where it contains all our purchase power, and it's implanted in our skin as some people feel, would you go down to your local bank/clinic and get it implanted?

Doing the prophecy and working to prevent it are two very different things. Also, why is it evil if this is what god has ordained must happen before he saves the rest of you? Does that make god evil?

I think it's a good idea to oppose this sort of thing for a couple of reasons:

    - ID microchips implanted under your skin would pose huge risks for privacy, especially if they can be read at a distance like RFID tags.

    - I think it's dangerously short-sighted to start surgically implanting things in people when you know they're going to be obsolete in a few years.

Definitely. I'm not saying we should just accept them to annoy the Christians, the privacy concerns are genuine and need to be discussed if we're going down that road. My question was why exactly do Christians fear this so much when it's implementation is believed by many to be exactly what they're waiting for? There are now three states with this sort of legislation and I'm sure none of them did it just for the privacy concerns. After all, none of them passed legislation prohibiting the Patriot Act and that's been monumentally destructive when it comes to privacy laws.

No, their motivation is all biblical and they appear to be cutting off their nose to spite their faces, as it were. How can god return if the prophecy is not fulfilled?

Maybe they just don't want Jesus to return? I can't see any company developing, and then having implemented something that would be the Mark of the Beast (which this chip, in all technical sense, does not qualify as the Biblical Mark which would be 666). It simply is not going to happen, so Jesus can never come back. Not a very good plan on the Christian communities part.

However, that is only if those Christians believe the idea of the rapture, etc. Most likely, as scholars having been discovering, the book of Revelation has nothing to do with the end times, but had to do with eminent events, and events that had already taken place.

My position is pre-trib meaning I believe the rapture will happen pre-tribulation so we don't have to worry about the mark of the beast. The people that get saved after the rapture and during the tribulation will have to worry about it. I can't say what I will do or not until the time comes, people used to think a bar code on food items was a sign of the mark of the beast. I see the end times coming but I think that when the mark of the beast is here, it will be clear as to what it is.

God is the one who created good and bad and also gave human free will so that we can use our brains to chose between. we are not invited to act inhumane, on the contrary. but unfortunately not every one care for invites and some chose to do evil -not to serve God- to serve themselves. opposites make each other real. someone would do evil, while some other person chose to obey God and act humane, or simply act humane. no point of existence on a physical dimension and no test matter is there if everyone was evil or not IMO

well, i am sorry i find your logic illogical :D because many religious people believe one day this world would end. according to your logic, we should end it just because it is going to end. IMO and according to Islam, purpose of life is human. there is something for human to gain or to lose. therefor each person is given a life time. of course people should follow their hearts and in case they feel like they should oppose evil dicdators, they should. and of course we should not kill ourselves simply for knowing we would die someday. it makes no sense to me anyway :)

Who says Christians fear the mark of the beast?
I want to go to Heaven but it doen't mean I won't take care of myself and live a long healthy life here on earth. If anything I think the fear comes from those who don't want the mark of the beast to be true?

    Hi,
Superstition prevails on this subject. Chapter 13 of Revelation states clearly that the number 666 is the number of Jesus and it would be the Antichrist who would have us worship the image of the beast, the crucifix, and wear the mark of the beast, EITHER the mark, the name, or number of the beast who was "pierced with a sword and lives". Who else would this be but Jesus? The mark of the beast turned out to be the Cross, so too late, the majority of Christians have already accepted the mark of the beast.
As to microchips in humans, NO WAY JOSE!!!!!!! This isn't a religious issue. Totalitarian governments are not religious. Our founding fathers tried to make sure this kind of thing wouldn't happen. There are those who keep trying however.

What I'm worried about is the Mark of the Beets. That stuff stains. No matter how much you wash your clothes, that purple juice isn't coming out!

It's been here since the fourth century. The mark of the beast is the Cross. There were three options and the Church chose the Cross to identify Christians. I am trying to point out to myopic people in denial that the beast whose mark we would wear, and whose image was made, the crucifix, and whose number is 666, is Jesus. He is the one who was pierced with a sword but lives. Who else would it be?

    Greetings!

According to a book I have, the mark of the beast on the head refers to a per-capita tax, while the mark on the hand refers to a licensing tax for doingbusiness.

These taxes existed during the Seventh and Eighth Centuries when the first and second beasts appeared and reigned, and everyone was required to pay them regardless of his religion.

    Peace,

    Bruce

On the contrary, you might be surprised how many people do read it!

I know because I'm one of the folks who supply it online to others upon request!

    Peace, :)
