Emiliano's stance on this matter is exactly a perfect example of how faith can interfere with one's ethical wisdom. Emiliano wants to keep things the way they always have been, regardless as to whether those ways cause suffering to many people, because that's what makes emiliano comfortable. Thanks to the good old bible, he can justify it by saying "see, this is the way god wants it" rather than act responsibly by considering the actual effects of our stigmas and opinions about other people and accepting change if reasoned consideration proves it beneficial to do so.
