Years ago I once heard Pat O'Reilly when asked about if Faux News being "fair and balanced" he said, "We have liberals on our show all the time!" I thought about this for a long time and came to the conclusion he was right! When you are as far to the right as O'Reilly EVERYONE is a liberal!

A Republican from New Jersey is further to the left than a Democrat from Texas! Hillary Clinton worked on Barry Goldwater's presidential campaign! My God this country is so screwed up.

So when I hear people complain about the "left wing" media I just laugh. I watch CNN and MS-NBC and think about how far to the right these Republican owned corporate media outlets have become!

So when I am looking for some true leftist propaganda I go to Mother Jones and Truthout.org. Truthout.org is my preferred leftist news outlet. Here's TRUE left-wing news and opinion:

Sanders Calls for Boldest Legislation in Modern History to Halt COVID-19 Crisis

"Sen. Bernie Sanders on Friday released his demands for six key priorities that he said must be included in the next round of federal economic relief for suffering Americans as the coronavirus pandemic cripples the country’s healthcare system and eviscerates the economy."
  • Addressing the employment crisis by ensuring workers remain employed and paid as well as providing social services for everyone in the country, regardless of citizenship or immigration status
  • Guaranteeing a free at point of service Medicare for All single payer healthcaer system for everyone in the country
  • Immediately using the Defense Production Act to manufacture personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilators, and other needed healthcare equipment for frontline workers dealing with the pandemic
  • Providing food for everyone in the country for the duration of the crisis
  • $600 billion in aid to states and cities
  • An immediate suspension of collections of rent, mortgage payments, medical debt, and consumer debt for four months and a suspension of student loan payments through the duration of the pandemic
Now this is left wing socialist opinion! Suspension of mortgages!

Australia’s right wing government is putting similar policies in place.

I was having the same thought. What stands between us and socioeconomic catastrophe right now is...socialism.

I dare any right winger to tell me that they want no measures of this kind undertaken to protect everybody’s interests.

Our right wing has those who are in favor of 'no measures' and whine when they're put in place. Not all, of course, but too many.

Wouldn't that make you "unemployed" though and thus possibly covered by employment insurrance to maintain a certain level. Alternately, I think you coult get a loan using your properties as insurrance to maintain your lifestyle since you would not have to pay it back until after those four months are passed. You can then increase rent in your properties to cover the loan once the crisis pass. In the end, your tenents lose and you don't see much of a difference.

A better option would be for the government to pay your tenent's rent allowing you to maintain your revenue and then the government raises taxes in a progressive way to pay the tab at the end of the crisis.

Hopefully only an intractable minority ?
If we look at State governors, many Republican ones are paying attention to the science and taking proper action. Too many are ignoring the science, believing that it can't happen to them and refusing take action because of the ideology that government must not force people to do what they don't want to do - selfishness enabling.

Then we have the NRA demanding that being able to buy guns and ammo is more important than preventing uncounted deaths.

So probably a minority but sadly a very large minority.

Unemployment insurance applies only to employees.
But it would make me eligible for an assistance loan.

I prefer your approach....aid the little people to meet their obligations.
And then only shuttered businesses would need assistance.
I'm happy if I do without any gubmint money.

I do like helping the young whippersnappers, even going so
far as to invite them onto my lawn. I support their schooling,
& entry into the workforce. (I give away a lot of tools...& now
that I think of it, I need to give away even more.)
