Sunstone's favorite topic! :flirt:

This was brought up at another site I visit, with the majority being against porn. There was an interesting twist added to the discussion, though: what about porn that simulates illegal actions such as rape and prostitution?

I'm against violent porn, child porn, porn that depicts cruelity to animals, and porn that involves the deflation of love dolls. Other than that, as long as the performers are informed, consenting adults, I'm ok with it being legal.

I think if porn were banned, preachers like Ted Haggard would still get their hands on it, so there's no point in banning it on the grounds that doing so would protect our societie's hypocrits from being scandalized.

The dreaded "Other"

I am getting confused here, because I see the meaning of 'porn' getting blurred:-
1 : the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement
2 : material (as books or a photograph) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement
3 : the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction <the pornography of violence>

The dangers of porn, as far as I am concerned, are that to those with weak minds, sexually repressed..etc, pornography can give an impression that "sex on tap" is the norm. The latent danger lies therein; now, there is no way to sort out those for whom porn is likely to lead them to want to put into action what they have seen depicted, other than banning it.

I guess that is where the answer lies, for the public. Are you prepared to be able to enjoy the freedom of your choice to buy porn, knowing that it is likely to be a contributory cause for rape and sexual attacks on children?

LOL.

Actually, the control freaks who want to call everybody "sinners" would probably no longer have as much interest in it themselves if it weren't stigmatized.

The Law creates the sin. That may even be "Biblical"!

Sam Harris, in The End of Faith, argues that the prosecution of people for victimless crimes is an extension of the Biblical notion of sin. According to Harris, there is really no justification for prosecuting people for victimless crimes apart from the belief that certain things are crimes because they are sins.

Banning what's already legal won't fix any problems. In fact, it will only exacerbate the abuses in the porn industry.

I have friends from Holland who could add some very interesting information to the whole pornography issue. In a place where the taboo's of porn, prostitution, and drugs hardly exist at all...you would be shocked to see the crime rates. Not what you might think, as i first did. Sexually violent crimes are almost non-existent. Crime rates related to drugs are minimal compared to the US. With the taboo's gone it seems that people gravitate to them alot less...This is a lesson our country should take not of. Especially since the only reason why marijuana was outlawed in the first place was to prevent Mexicans from coming into our country…Now that is ridiculous…

Is the link so clear?

On the other hand, would you drive, knowing you're adding to the traffic that kills and maims children?
