The problem for Conservatives is consistently getting muscled out by an ever increasingly further right, further dogmatic, louder and more dangerous faction of the Right despite those riding this decades old wave never really being the majority they think and claim.

Yep, and let's not forget the failed political agenda of not taxing the rich properly. For example a fiscal conservative would support single payer health care. If one analyzes costs and benefits of various health care systems our s clearly underperforms when it comes to the costs of services received.

An even better example is AGW. AGW should be a conservative issue. In fact politically it was first brought up as a problem by an "archconservative". Maggie thatcher is the first world leader that alerted everyone to AGW. Unfortunately the message did not sink in. There is a conservative approach that would lead to a solution. Instead we only see denial from the right and no solutions. Far too often with the new conservatives we do not see a conservative response. We see one based upon greed and hatred. That may seem conservative on the surface, but it is far from conservative ideals.
