The scammers took on the wrong person. If you watch the video, the criminals start swearing a few minutes into the video.

Phone Scammers Accidentally Call A Programmer, Regret It Immediately

The programmer and Redditor, who goes by the username YesItWasDataMined, but operates an anti-scam operation called Project Mayhem, received a voicemail from someone claiming to be an IRS employee. When he called them back and was asked to pay a massive fine for unclear reasons, he knew immediately that he was being had – and came up with a genius way to pull the plug on them. He wrote a script that called each of their phones 28 times per second with an automated message, tying up their lines and making it impossible to reach other potential victims.

Jolly good, it would be nice if all such scams could be dealt with in this way. I'm always slightly surprised people fall for such highly transparent con tricks, but I guess some do or they wouldn't bother setting up the phone lines and paying people to read the scripts.

Hehe. A few weeks after my mom died last year, I was out gardening in the front area of the property and the phone rang. By this time, I had called dozens of people, anyone who knew mom and let them know she had died. I missed no one. So...... when the caller asked if this was Daryl ______ , I replied, in a bored tone, "Yes!" (As most people assume Daryl is a male.)

The caller then claimed that they worked for CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) and that they had detected a serious case of fraud in the last 7 years of tax filings and that a bench warrant had been issued for her/my ARREST. (I began to chuckle inside at the thought of mounties arresting the urn my mom's fresh ashes were held in. o_O ) Knowing that my mom had had a wonderful and competent accountant prepare her returns I began audibly chuckling. The man on the phone began to ask if I thought this was funny? Still, in the best bored voice I could muster I replied, "Yes. Let me get this straight. You are alerting me to the fact a bench warrant has been issued to a person has the means to flee the country in a moment's notice? Seriously?" (Or something like that.) It's at that point that I noticed the caller had abruptly hung up. I sighed and continued pulling weeds, LOL.

A call to my local RCMP detachment a few minutes later assured me that this type of call was indeed a scam. In fact, on the CRA website in bold and RED at the top of the page is a notice saying that CRA does NOT call people regarding their tax returns. (It's all done via mail so there is a paper trail.)

If he could find out all of their phone numbers and their point of origin, why can't any government or law enforcement agency do the same? This kind of scamming has been going on for decades, with very little indication that anyone in authority is actually doing something about it.

But kudos to this guy for sticking it back to 'em. Good for him.

Yep. A boss years ago, kept an agent on the phone for over 30 minutes baiting him with buying 5000 monogrammed pens. Then, abruptly, after that long simply said, "Sorry, not interested" and hung up.

Once someone cold called me offering financing.
I kept him on the line a long time with the need to finance new rims for my low rider.

I like this. I wish I had the level of skill and talent to do that.

After seeing it, I went on youtube to find it so I'd see others like it, and spent the rest of the morning so far watching people get back at scammers, or at least have fun thwarting their efforts.

I have tried to look up suspicious numbers I've seen on my caller ID, but most of the time I end up with commercial sites which tell me I can find out who owns the number if I pay them a certain amount.

As I see it, it's the IRS who should be the most upset about this and should use all their power and zeal to go after people who are impersonating IRS agents. I know that whenever someone impersonates a local cop around here, the cops are usually quite proactive at going after people like that. They really, really don't like people who impersonate police officers.
