Repetition

I can't recall the precise moment when I noticed this....

Do NOT pray in repetition as do the heathens
believing their prayers are heard for so many words

I agree

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

From the Sermon on the Mount distinguishing "prayer" which is designed to impress people and prayer which is directed to God.

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

IMO:
If a prayer is sincere and from the heart, 1 prayer is enough
If not then more are needed till the 1 sincere prayer is done

Exceptions are possible probably:D

You should be aware that repetition is often a tool of the propagandist.

IOW, the power is not in the words, thus the words are not an end in and of themselves.

The idea of repeating a mantra (or God's Name) is to slow down the mind;)
Once the mind is silenced, repeating the mantra would speed up the mind;)

ok....I can see that

still....I don't think God and heaven listen to the droning sound
that endless whining sound

at this late date
the Lord's Prayer is beyond counting of recital

... then I would be VERY surprised.
and there events in my life

first the surprise

then the relief

followed by the nagging doubt......
my need was answered by heaven?

why?.....would heaven bother over the likes of me?

so.....I am careful about what I say toward God and heaven
and also here....as I speak to my fellowman

words can have power

I did not say it is a droning sound, that is your interpretation
I did not say mantras are whining, nor is repeating God's Name

Okay, you mean to say, that you never had a conversation with the Divine

I know that the Universe listens and responds to prayers
a fair saying....

I have not heard the Voice
as did Moses

and when I post.....it really is my handiwork that I post

still....there is an influence that maybe you can pick up on

I can't claim to be a prophet
God's Voice is not in my head

but I am a scribe
