I think a lot more people would respond if we didn't feel our forum was being 'used' as an easy way of gathering answers. People post surveys and then don't return- it doesn't seem very 'neighborly'.

If you would like replies-I think you need to let us know who you are, what the purpose of your survey is, and what you are going to do with the information we supply?

Religious Survey,

If you'd let us know what this was for and who you, that would help out. Thank you.

Seems too much like adware.

I'm just going to showcase my ignorance- how is something like this adware? Is it used for garnering email addies, or what? I think I'd like to respond via this thread, because it might help me to get to know the beliefs of others better, though.

Well, it sort of reminds me of those so-called "bots" in chat programs where screen names are created for the purposes of advertisement (often sex) or for gathering information.

I think responding to the questions here would be cool. :)

Okay- after corresponding with the individual, I believe that they may be honestly curious. I'm moving the thread to a section where everyone can read it more easily.

Okay- after corresponding with the individual, I believe that they may be honestly curious. I'm moving the thread to a section where everyone can read it more easily.

That's cool! I'm still going to post my answers here so everyone can read.

1. What should we call you?

Guitar's Cry is fine. :) Or Mike.

2. How old are you?

26. Though I still feel like I'm 19.

3. Where are your from?

Mainah!

4. What religion were you raised?

Christian.

5. What religion are you now?

My own.

6. If you are NOT the same religion as when you were raised, why did you choose to change?

I was never all that enthusiastic about Christianity. I had a hard childhood, and it just didn't provide the hope I needed. I grew to believe in more of a nature-based spirituality. When college philosophy broke down my beliefs to the point of nihilism, I decided to build them back up using the philosophical tools I was given.

7. Do you believe in a god/gods?

Undecided. I'm agnostic, leaning towards pantheism (maybe panentheism). For all intents and purposes, though, I'm a pantheist.

8. If so, who?

The spirit of Life. The subjective will of the Universe.

9. If not, why?
10. What are your thoughts on Creationism?

I see nothing wrong with believing in it. I believe in evolution, as it appears to be pretty accurate scientifically, but I also believe that there may be a force directing it.

11. What are your thoughts on Evolution?

See above.

12. How do you think we got here?

Through the forces of the Universe.

13. What kinds of rituals/ceremonies do you have in your religion?

I practice folk magick as I see the psychological power behind it and I enjoy it immensely. Many of the ceremonies I do are celebrations of life, full of personal symbolism and meaning.

14. Why do you perform these?

Enjoyment, empowerment, and celebration.

15. How do you talk to your god/gods?

Through emotional and symbolic release.

16. To you, what is the difference between religion and spirituality?

Dogma and meaning.

17. Going by how you defined Spirituality, are you spiritual?

Very much so.

18. What are your spiritual beliefs?

I exist. My existence is defined by my worldview which appears to be structured by the stimuli from an outside world that I can only know through my subjective mind which also appears to affect that outside world. Because of this, I believe in dualism, the subjective/objective split. Symbolic meaning becomes important, because everything I can know is symbolic due to how I perceive the world.
Therefore, my personal symbolism becomes my spirituality.

19. Do you feel you have to be in a center of worship to commune with your god?

Nope.

20. Do you have a text that you consider holy or sacred that you base your life and principles by?

My grimoire, or Book of Shadows. I prefer grimoire, because it is less identified with a particular religion and is much more personal, though I will use both terms. In it I put my philosophies, ceremonies, spells, rituals, creative peices, and I will soon be adding my personal journal to it.

21. Do you feel that you succeed in doing so?

I have no choice, since it is based off myself.

22. What are your thoughts on Heaven?

I see it as something more internal than external.

23. What do you think we have to do to go there?

Find peace with yourself.

24. What are your thoughts on Hell?

Also internal.

25. What do you think we have to do to end up there?

Not resolve inner conflicts.

26. Where do you think you would end up if they exist?

If external, I hope heaven, since I am a rather compassionate fellow. I'm working towards resolving personal conflicts.

27. Do you believe in the devil?

Possibly.

28. Who are Adam & Eve to you?

Figures in Christian mythology representing the first people. Their experiences speaks for a universal Human Experience that works towards explaining our sufferings.

29. Who is Abraham to you?

The writer of my favorite book, Dracula. (Bram Stoker.)

30. Who is Noah to you?

Also a Christian mythological figure.

31. Who is Jesus Christ to you?

The ultimate Christian figure that represents salvation and compassion. A groovy guy he was.

32. Could he have been married?

I think he could have been. I see no reason.

33. If not, why?
34. Who is Muhammad to you?

The most important figure in Muslim mythology.

35. Who is Joseph Smith to you?

The founder of the LDS church.

36. Who is Anton LeVey to you?

The founder of a philosophical sect of Satanism.

37. What are your thoughts on the Council of Nicea?

Will have to research it.

38. Do you believe in past lives?

I think so. Haven't decided. I'm leaning towards believing in total recurrence.

39. What do you think happens when we die?

Perhaps total recurrence. But anything's possible. I lean towards some form of afterlife because it makes more sense to me.

40. Do you believe in Ghosts, Demons, Angels, Spirits, or Magic?

Yes. At least as ideas that have symbolic meaning.

41. Do you think we each have a divine purpose, a destiny?

Haven't decided.

42. Do you believe in true love?

Yup. :) I'm a romantic.

43. Do you believe in love at first sight?

I see it as possible.

44. What are your thoughts on Karma?

I see it as the resulting feedback from acting within a possibly deterministic universe (which I have been describing as a web as of late).

45. What are your thoughts on abortion?

I can understand that there are times when it should and it shouldn't be done.

46. When do you think the world will end?

Maybe when I die. Probably when there are no longer any living creatures to observe it.

47. How do you think it will end?

From no longer being observed.

48. Even if you don't believe in god, please answer this question on the theory that God exists. If you were able to ask god one question, what would it be?

Do you exist both objectively and subjectively?

49. What do you think the answer is?

Maybe.

50. What are your thoughts on the Pentagram?

A useful symbol representing the balance between elements, energies, and other symbols.

Feathers in Hair

World's Tallest Hobbit
1. What should we call you?
Feathers in Hair.
2. How old are you?
27
3. Where are your from?
Iowa.
4. What religion were you raised?
Christian- both extremely conservative and not-so-conservative.
5. What religion are you now?
Pagan.
6. If you are NOT the same religion as when you were raised, why did you choose to change?
I no longer felt that my spiritual needs were being met, though I still respect the other tradition.
7. Do you believe in a god/gods?
At times, I'm agnostic, but mostly, I believe in a number of gods.
8. If so, who?
Because I think they are embodiments of that which I strive for in myself, and that celebrating them will help me to get closer to that goal. Also, I consider them friends.
10. What are your thoughts on Creationism?
I honestly don't know.
11. What are your thoughts on Evolution?
It seems like the most scientifically probable explanation of what we are, as humans.
12. How do you think we got here?
I enjoy several different creation myths, but, evolution seems the most logical. (Even though I don't tend to be logical.)
13. What kinds of rituals/ceremonies do you have in your religion?
There are sabbats, that celebrate the changing of the seasons. I practise magic, which sometimes has an aspect of ritual to it, and I celebrate the holy days of several of my favorite gods and goddesses.
14. Why do you perform these?
To remind me of my connection with nature and the divine, and how the two can be interchangable. Magic, depending on how it is viewed, is either a way of focusing your thought into action, or a way of converting energy into power. Celebrating the holy days of the gods and goddesses tends to be very grounding for me. Because the deities that I choose to celebrate have qualities that I admire, it's also a way of celebrating myself, since there is something in me that acknowledges that, in order to adore a quality, I must have innate respect for that quality.
15. How do you talk to your god/gods?
Through prayer, sometimes, through 'sacred walking' at others. Sometimes, I catch glimpses of them in other humans and animals, and I feel as if I'm talking with them.
16. To you, what is the difference between religion and spirituality?
I think that religion is the outward trappings of spirituality. Any form of spirituality that becomes 'organized', or practised by many people gains what I percieve as an outward layer. Sometimes it's cumbersome, like armor and sometimes it's light, like a robe. If the religion is like armor and the armor becomes thick enough, I believe that it causes situations in which we let religion come before spirituality, and let religion come before others, as well.
17. Going by how you defined Spirituality, are you spiritual?
Yup.
18. What are your spiritual beliefs?
They tend to change from day to day. I don't think I've ever sat down and tried to list them.
19. Do you feel you have to be in a center of worship to commune with your god?
Absolutely. I call it 'earth'.
20. Do you have a text that you consider holy or sacred that you base your life and principles by?
I have a book (okay, several books) that I collect my spiritual writings in. Terry Pratchett's 'Discworld' books are probably the works that come closest to describing what I believe is my spirituality, so I tend to treat them as sacred.
21. Do you feel that you succeed in doing so?
Not honestly sure.
22. What are your thoughts on Heaven?
If it exists, then I hope we are given the option to go there, if we wish.
23. What do you think we have to do to go there?
Not sure.
24. What are your thoughts on Hell?
Sounds like a rather nasty place.
25. What do you think we have to do to end up there?
Not sure.
26. Where do you think you would end up if they exist?
It would depend on whether the god that was deciding it was one I celebrated or if it's the God I used to worship soley. (I still like his son, naturally!) If it's the latter, and He's going by his playbook of how people have decided to worship other gods, I imagine I'd be roasting marshmallows.

(I'll get to the other questions soon!)

1. What should we call you?
Blayze

2. How old are you?
25

3. Where are your from?
Montreal, QC

4. What religion were you raised?
I wasn't raised any specific religion. I come from an extremely varied religious background, family-wise

5. What religion are you now?
Actually, that's kind of up for debate. I've been Kemetic Reconstructionist for as long as I can remember, but at the moment, I'm kind of leaning more towards Isisian-centered Satanism.

6. If you are NOT the same religion as when you were raised, why did you choose to change?
I wasn't "raised" any religion, and have always been free to choose my own path. The reason for my recent semi-change is because I've not been feeling all that connected to Kemeticism of late, and have been feeling much more connected to Satanism. I'm still trying to figure it all out.

7. Do you believe in a god/gods?
Yes, multiple.

8. If so, who?
The Kemetic Deities. Mainly Isis and Osiris.

9. If not, why?

10. What are your thoughts on Creationism?
I don't believe in it.

11. What are your thoughts on Evolution?
I'm still trying to work that out for myself, though I feel it's much more plausible than Creationism.

12. How do you think we got here?
That's to be debated. I'm really unsure, though as I said, Evolution seems the most plausible.

13. What kinds of rituals/ceremonies do you have in your religion?
As with most Pagan religions, I follow the Sabbats; the turning of the wheel of the year, as well as minor rituals centered around the specific deities of my worship.

14. Why do you perform these?
To keep myself centered and allow myself to become essentially one with the Netjer, and all It's seperate facets.

15. How do you talk to your god/gods?
With my voice. I orally speak to Isis on a daily basis. She always listens.

16. To you, what is the difference between religion and spirituality?
I'll get into this later.

17. Going by how you defined Spirituality, are you spiritual?
See above.

18. What are your spiritual beliefs?
See above.

19. Do you feel you have to be in a center of worship to commune with your god?
Not at all. I speak to Isis whenever I feel the need to, wherever I feel the need to. She is always with me.

20. Do you have a text that you consider holy or sacred that you base your life and principles by?
Other than my personal Book of Shadows, which holds my own personal writings, no.

21. Do you feel that you succeed in doing so?
Sure.

22. What are your thoughts on Heaven?
I don't believe in it. My religion has it's own views on the afterlife.

23. What do you think we have to do to go there?
I have no idea, since I don't believe in it.

24. What are your thoughts on Hell?
Same as my thoughts on Heaven. To me, it doesn't exist. If others wish to believe in Heaven and Hell, they are perfectly allowed and I respect their opinions.

25. What do you think we have to do to end up there?
See above.

26. Where do you think you would end up if they exist?
Probably Hell, haha.

27. Do you believe in the devil?
I believe in aspects of him and certain characteristics and qualities he possesses, but I don't believe in the Christian version of him.

28. Who are Adam & Eve to you?
Characters in a book.

29. Who is Abraham to you?
As above.

30. Who is Noah to you?
My ex boyfriend.

31. Who is Jesus Christ to you?
A carpenter.

32. Could he have been married?
Sure, why not.

33. If not, why?

34. Who is Muhammad to you?
An important figure in Islamic religion.

35. Who is Joseph Smith to you?
The founder of the LDS Church.

36. Who is Anton LeVey to you?
The founder of a sect of Satanism (and a pretty cool guy ;))

37. What are your thoughts on the Council of Nicea?
Uh....

38. Do you believe in past lives?
I'm honestly not really sure.

39. What do you think happens when we die?
We are brought to the Hall of Ma'at, where our hearts are weighed on a scale, next to Ma'at's ostrich feather. If one's heart is heavier than the feather, our soul is devoured by Ammut. If one's heart is lighter than the feather, we are welcomed in the Valley of the Reeds (or the Fields of Peace) to spend eternity in the warming glow of Osiris.

40. Do you believe in Ghosts, Demons, Angels, Spirits, or Magic?
Yes I do. I practice the latter.

41. Do you think we each have a divine purpose, a destiny?
I am wholly unsure of this, though I'm leaning towards yes.

42. Do you believe in true love?
Yes.

43. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes.

44. What are your thoughts on Karma?
Three times bad and three times good.

45. What are your thoughts on abortion?
I'm pro-choice.

46. When do you think the world will end?
Does anyone really know this?

47. How do you think it will end?
I've no idea, nor any speculation on this.

48. Even if you don't believe in god, please answer this question on the theory that God exists. If you were able to ask god one question, what would it be?
I'm in the wrong place, aren't I?

49. What do you think the answer is?
Yep, you are.

50. What are your thoughts on the Pentagram?
A symbol representing complete balance. Something I strive for.
